from what ive heard it sounds like a winner - but i know what you mean about the pre-ipo issue - we got a raw deal on BlackAngelMining which never ended up floating at all

is it 10k minimum?

Roodboy, because its Pre-IPO so you can't simply get your cash back when you want, because its in a politically unstable country and because, for me atleast, £10,000 is a lot of money to have tied up for 6 months. That said, the enthusiasm coming from Cornhill on this one does seem very genuine.

why does the risk seem high?

I`m in.....
Worth a punt, and thus far Cornhill hasn`t let me down.

But the risk seems high.
So only risk it, if you can handle the loss.

Is everyone going for Mayfair? I think I will despite the risks?

Could be. Mining stocks have taken a hammering this week. Just look at BHP.

seems a high amount to risk on a Pre-IPO.
Just depends on your situation.

Next Pre-IPO:
Mayfair Energy Group

This company is the longest established independent onshore oil operator in Azerbaijan. It has a concession on the largest onshore oil and gas field in Azerbaijan through a joint venture with the national state oil company. It has very strong connections with the state and is in prime position to source further concessions from the government in the future. The field has already produced over 260 million barrels of oil from continous unbroken production since 1955. Production from the joint venture has reached a cumulative 14 million barrels and it has always surpassed targets. Last year the Company produced 4500 barrels per day.

Mayfair currently owns 51% of the joint venture with the state but at its discretion their interests may be increased further.

The JV's accounts have been audited by Deloitte's and a recent detailed oil reserves report based on 3D seismic has been carried out by Schlumberger™, one of world's premier oil services groups. The Schlumberger™ report states that there are:

2 billion barrels of proven oil - 1P P90
a further 1 billion barrels of probable oil (2P 2.9 Billion BBLS)
a further 1.3 billion barrels of possible oil - 3P (P10) 4.2 Billion BBLS
Therefore there is an equivalent proven and probable asset of some 3 billion barrels of oil
There is an estimated 1.2 trillion cubic feet of proven gas. This equates to 200 million barrels of oil in terms of value

The company is currently raising up to £50m at pre-IPO with much of this earmarked for a comprehensive development and production program with a drill crew already on location.

Subject to further independent assessment on the company's vast asset base £250-300 million will be raised at IPO. Institutions will need to take 30% ownership at the IPO stage to provide sufficient liquidity for such a tightly held company. These funds would enable the Company to make the transition from a relatively small producer to much more serious player in the Caspian region.

The funds raised are expected to enable the company to raise production to 45,000 barrels per day, which equates to some 19.5 million barrels per annum.

It is estimated that there will be a 100% uplift in value from pre-IPO to IPO and we would anticipate the IPO be within the next 6 months. At the estimated valuation at IPO, this company could be one of AIM's largest company by market capitalization.

£50m is being raised pre-IPO from major institutions and (via Cornhill Asset Management) from high net worth intermediate investors. Given the scale and timeframe until this pre-IPO closes this investment will only be open to investors able to commit a minimum of £10,000 although investors at £50,000-£2m will be prioritized.

I`ve emailed my contact at Cornhill with the same suggestion.

Woundering if they are reserving some at 5k for existing customers.
Fingers Crossed.....

I'll ring Cornhill tomorrow to find out why the minimum is so high. Perhaps it's likely to be oversubscribed and they want to reserve shares for their most 'prestigious' clients? I have to say that for me, £10k in a pre-ipo in a politically unstable country is a lot of money with that level of risk. I guess it all depends on how big your portfolio is and what level of risk you're happy with. I'd be a lot happier with £5k, particularly as the exit route will be months and months away.
