20/6/2013 16:00 | salpara - they are indeed but probably just looking at the chart although thaat shows a SOR situation ! | arja
20/6/2013 13:58 | When it comes to natural resource based stocks NAV is meaningless as it is based on an historical valuation on an asset, in this instance coal in the ground, if you cannot extract the "asset" and sell it for a profit then it is effectively worthless. The shale gas revolution in the USA has had huge structural implications for the global coal market and that problem is not going to go away any time soon. Coal capacity has to close down and I have no idea who are the lowest cost producers so there is no point trying to invest in the sector. | salpara111
20/6/2013 11:07 | blimey... it really is sinking | adieadie

13/6/2013 15:45 | So the £1 line is not holding. There is a serious problem here that is not going to change in the next 12 months. | salpara111
30/5/2013 09:52 | Indeed. And on what terms and with what sacrifice ? Companies under such survival pressure can be predisposed toward raising finance by way of deeply discounted emergency rights issues. | bobsidian
30/5/2013 09:47 | and survival at 300p, 100p or 20p ? | adieadie
30/5/2013 09:31 | "...you haven't yet made a credible case for this particular company" Why would I do that ? Surely you are not looking for me to make an argument to suit your own investment strategy ? There are big red flags surrounding NWR. It is true NWR are taking steps in an endeavour to safeguard its future. The problem is the relatively near term outlook for the pricing of most commodities. And as the management of NWR have pointed out, it is the near term in which many of its problems are about to manifest. NWR is on my radar. NWR may be one of the coal mining companies to survive but, given the nature of the warnings issued by management, survival is not assured. | bobsidian
28/5/2013 08:12 | any reason for the share price rise this am? | melody9999
24/5/2013 23:38 | bobsidian, show me a company that *doesn't* take measures -wages/pay- to address short-term falling profitability and you will find your problem there. You tell me why the market price for coal has fallen, as it's not 'obvious'. I do know that; - China is buying up coal reserves all over, because - China is going electric (not enough oil) for cars and needs the coal. - Nuclear was soiled by Fukushima, and - Germany loves coal. - Growth will win over austerity, and that will take ... guess what? I can't make you drink, but if you have more than a 12 month view, it's my opinion that you'll see a big bounce for coal producers. I agree -as you've posited before- that some smaller producers will be swallowed up in the short-term, but you haven't yet made a credible case for this particular company. | biggerthus |
