I agree QS9. They seem to be tanking in line with other commodities, but a case can be made from an environmental point of view if nothing else. Once things calm a bit the focus will return to the environment bigtime. I have done the big no-no, averaged down.

Have tucked a few away at these prices on the basis that it has large amounts of net cash, is highly profitable and looks IMO to be in a strong position. Markets are factoring in armaggedon here which I am not sure is on the cards!! DYOR but little long-term reason for halving of share price in under a month IMO.

LOL and ? It is currently running at less than 57% of an £850 target. How is increasing that target going to help ? This share responds to crude palm oil prices not targets.

Added 13 hours ago - The palm oil price is taking a breather due to a peak harvest season but will resume their rise as demand picks up, industry experts said. Yesterday, the third month benchmark crude palm oil price on the Malaysian Derivatives Exchange fell RM115 to close at RM2,600 per tonne.

"The market is oversold and I would say we're in transition. I may be mistaken but I'm convinced the bull run is not yet over. We still have a couple of years more to go," said Godrej International Ltd director Dorab Mistry.

Changing weather patterns could also affect yields of soyabean in the US and grains in India.

"The US Department of Agriculture had over-estimated August rainfall in the US and there is still a question mark on the soya-bean yield," he said.

If the production of soyabean falls, its prices could rise. This in turn, could also boost the palm oil price as both are a near perfect substitutes. Both are used to make cooking oil, margarine, detergent and cosmetics.

"These development are giving support to palm oil prices," he told a hall full of more than 500 participants at the International Palm Oil Trade Fair and Seminar 2008 held in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

In a separate session, the Palm Oil Refiners Association of Malaysia (Poram) told reporters that defaults of palm oil shipments to India and China are not massive. At most, it is only around 80,000 tonnes.

The trade body said recent news reports of exaggerated defaults has cause unnecessary panic and further price plunge in the palm oil futures market.

"Certainly, there are some defaults. I've checked with all our members and we find that it is not to the extent of 800,000 or one million tonnes ... that is impossible," said Poram acting chairman Yong Chin Fatt.

Defaults occur when buyers do not want to honour a contract when prices fall too much too fast and vice versa for sellers.

In today's context, Yong said Malaysia's palm oil trading with India or China is already quite established and developed.

"We sometimes wonder whether the exaggeration is done intentionally (by people who have vested interests) to cause distress in the market and push down the price further," he said.

Is it just me or is the Ramu saga damaging NBPO more than the price of palm oil ?

Noticed that the dividend was supposed to be paid out at the end of last month but spoke to Selftrade earlier today as still not received it.. They told me that they could not confirm when it was payable despite telling them the date can be found on NBPO's website! Anyone else in the same boat here? Cheers

The correction has 4 factors

1. price of CPO falling back from 1200/1300 to sub 1000 ( dont forget 2007 only averaged 780, and NBPO have sold forward about 40% of production at 1020 this year )
2. Technical traders. Pretty obvious...
3. Bid battle for Ramu
4. Crops a little below budget.

Foreward PE of 8.7 is good value now especially if you believe CPO aint going under 800.. like crude aint going under $80.. Big war chest and throwing out loads of positive cashflow. For those that like the long term story for palm, the technical traders will offer you a bargain soon here.

The correction coincides with the oil price and drop in oil stocks, and looks overdone as usual. Only a matter of time before oil spikes again and this stock will probably come back to around 400 where I think it might sit for a while. Looks a solid bet for the medium term.

The share price was puffed up by momentum investors during the commodity bull market when the best trade was to be long commodities, short banks. This trade has recently reversed.

I missed the boat at the IPO at 2.50. Thinking of filling up this years ISA allowance with these. After a day of research on this company, the fundamentals and prospects look good. The fall appears to be over concerns for the buyout of RAMU. What is eveyone's opinion on NBPO reaching the previous highs in the next 6 months?

floated at 2.50p... reality setting in.... you don't go from 2.50 to 6,00p in a few months in a credit crunch

Why are these shares down so much at present? Saw their results yesterday and they looked impressive: massive profits with plently of cash plus they are looking for acquisitions so can't figure why they are falling so much!?

Slap, thats very naive and untrue. Apart from a speculative spike to 1400s for a few days in March its been stable, pretty range bound 1100 to 1250 for last 4 months. You can see trend below, trending up from sub 1000 in Jan. Average for 2007 was 760, its averaged 1150 so far in 2008. Pretty healthy.

Lots of companies sell forward, including NBPO, so much more to it than spot prices.
