27/1/2008 16:06 | I might look to get some exposure to wind farms or the underlying technologies. Anybody have any ideas for potential companies in which to invest? | melody9999
24/1/2008 21:35 | In a landmark announcement, Brussels ordered Britain to increase its share of energy from renewables such as wind farms, solar power and tidal barrages by more than seven times to 15 per cent by 2020. Europe is also to get 10 per cent of its transport fuel from controversial biofuels, which are derived from crops such as oilseed rape and palm oil. These measures would send the average family's' annual energy bill soaring to nearly £2,000 following a series of crippling price rises. | cr4zyness

21/1/2008 12:51 | want that one - it's a possibility that no-one on this BB even seems prepared to consider. However, there is still plenty of demand outside the EU, and even in the EU there is a progression to non trans-fatty oils, so any restriction on importation would presumably come within strict guidelines. Certainly, Indonesia is a rogue state when it comes to environmental control, but NBPO don't operate there. :0) | taurusthebear
21/1/2008 12:34 | That 60k trade looks like a worked buy...:o) | nurdin

21/1/2008 10:19 | I have no interest in this share on any economic level, however I have been following the palm oil bubble with more than a little concern. It really would not surprise me if the EU did ban the import of palm oil, you should be looking into the amount of deforestation that's taking place in places like Indonesia, most of it illegal. The Indonesian governments claim not to have the resources to police the rain forests, in truth there is just to much money to made. In response to this the EU has been looking into ways to stop the deforestation. A ban on import of the oil would make perfect sense, as to how true the rumour is at this stage; I don't know. But if it does have any legs, then they have moved bloody quickly to shut this down. | want that one
21/1/2008 09:57 | Bach is Dead, As you bought AFR at circa 120p and DGO at circa 420p, I ask you: who is the idiot? Do you deny that oil palm is bad for the environment in that it leads to the destruction of forests? And do you deny that the EU has environmental concerns at the heart of it's legislature? If you accept both of those things, then I suggest to you that it is not such a big leap of faith to suggest that, sooner or later, some form of restriction is going to be imposed on palm oil imports. But since you are unable to have a civil discussion, any reply isn'g going to be read by me; it's the bin for you, Sir. Filtered! :0) | taurusthebear
21/1/2008 09:49 | The EU wont ban palm oil imports. (not from sustainble sources anyway) A few supermarket chains have announced they are banning the sale of palm oil, but only from unsustainable sources. We were always going to see some kind of retrace in the share price, as it had doubled in value within a month of the flotation price. The main reason for the drop is due to the general market conditions. Ive sold my holding based on where the markets are heading and not based on the fundamentals of this company. I personally beleive this company has a bright future, but am unsure where the price is going in the short term. I will buy again when market conditions improve. | t-trader
21/1/2008 09:45 | One bit of good news from NBPO and these will rocket...Taurus,I wouldnt hang around if I were you :o) | nurdin

21/1/2008 09:39 | Palm oils primary use is in cooking specially in India and China. The oil is now finding favour in the US and the Europe as an altenative to other vegetable cooking oils. It is also an important component of many soaps, washing powders and personal care products...and has uses as a lubricant in machinery. True the oil has a controvertial application as an alternative fuel, but I cannot for the life of me see the EU banning imports for that reason | nurdin
21/1/2008 09:35 | ttb, you talk some nonsense NBPO exports primarily to the EU. If the EU ban palm oil imports then that would destroy NBPO but you still think its a buy at 250P - think about the contradiction in your statement idiocy in its purest form | bach is dead
21/1/2008 09:25 | Read it the other day, nurdin. If you want to deride such concerns, you stand to pay the price! :0) | taurusthebear |
