I don't think there was a windfall at merger, share for share from memory. There was big return of cash to shareholders when they sold off 4 LDZ's over a year ago now.

Yes you are right but it's day may come! I picked this up on a stock filter when looking for larger caps with good fundamentals, a good track record (as evidenced by the chart) and stable propects. There is always the possibility of a takeout as well of course - EON have been mentioned in the past but nothing is currently rumoured to the best of my knowledge.

Not an unreasonable yield and a very solid few years indeed, also would have been an excellent longer term trading share, very little regular discussion on the bb though.

Can anyone help or remember please? Was there a windfall for share holders when lattice was merged with national grid? Many thanks

Is anything in particular driving the recent pull back, for instance, less likelihood of M&A activity?

Or is it that it's falling back after a good run up?

Maybe a chartist out there could give a view?

National Grid gets feds' OK
$7.3B KeySpan buy clears hurdle
By Tina Seeley BLOOMBERG NEWS

"WASHINGTON- National Grid Plc yesterday won approval from federal regulators for its $7.3 billion purchase of KeySpan Corp., an agreement that will more than double National Grid's U.S. customer base.

The deal, announced Feb. 27, would combine London-based National Grid's U.S. operations with the gas and electricity business of KeySpan, based in New York. KeySpan is the largest supplier of gas in the Northeast and the main supplier of electricity for Long Island.

"The combination of their electric generation resources is not likely to harm competition in any relevant market," the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission said in its order.

The agency said most of KeySpan's power supply is sold under long-term contracts to the Long Island Power Authority.

The companies still need approvals from state regulators in New York and New Hampshire to complete the purchase, National Grid spokesman David Graves said in an interview earlier this week.

Shareholders of both companies approved the buyout in August. The purchase has also been approved by U.S. antitrust regulators and a special federal committee that reviews takeovers of U.S. companies by foreign owners for risks to national security."

ady - don`t know where citigroup got the shares from. They were probably placing them for a client. Citigroup are a big financial firm and they deal in banking/insurance/shares etc. If you go to google and type in citigroup it should tell you all about them.

Yeah but the shares were "placed" by citigroup - so they sold them and the punters bought them(pi`s/institutions).
freds13

that cannot be, the trades show the buy sell volume over 50million shares have been bought

ady - I think citigroup sold the shares at this price(674.5p).
freds13

so citigroup got the shares at a discounted deal 6.74 for a large purchase & this caused the overall price to dip, is my understanding correct ?

thanks fred - based on my Corus thread which is no longer of any interest.
NG. looks like good value - best I could find in the high cap shares using a filter on fundamentals with a reasonable divi and prospects. Also I believe interims are next month and the interim divi in only around a month and a half away.
