19/3/2012 13:50 | yawn, you may have now changed your post to something equally patronising but just be careful before you incorrectly accuse people of being wrong in the future and then fail to apologise for your mistake | ![]() bountyhunter

19/3/2012 12:14 | No not shorters. Bank of America-Merill Lynch, for its part, has taken a swipe at National Grid, downgrading the utility group´s shares to neutral from buy. | ![]() lennonsalive
19/3/2012 12:07 | Beardmore - your revised text is still rather 'unfortunate' !!! given that higher rate tax payers do benefit most from the tax savings although I did not expand on the details, there was no real need for the original accusation that I was 'wrong' or tone now used | ![]() bountyhunter

19/3/2012 11:16 | Beardmore... >> BountyHunter is wrong to say that benefits are restricted to higher-rate taxpayers That's not what I said! Read my post again, I simply said 'benefits higher rate tax payers' ! | ![]() bountyhunter

19/3/2012 10:58 | Thanks bounty hunter i have just got my statement back from santander and the income on their 5 year unit trust package equates to 2.5% apr(taxable). If i can`t do better than that buying my own high yield shares and putting them in a isa than it is a poor show. Got a fair idea of the shares i want just got to figure out how to buy them and put them in a isa before deadline day | fuming fred
19/3/2012 10:54 | Fuming Fred - the dividend received in an ISA has tax deducted before payment but, in your ISA, it is not liable for more tax. The dividend does not have to be declared on any Tax Return you make. More than that, it does not count towards your PAYE Tax Code and so you minimise the retiree (if that applies) benefit trap where you lose tax relief for every pound you are paid above a certain level, depending on age. Unfortunately, BountyHunter gives the impression that benefits are restricted to higher-rate taxpayers: there is a real and useful benefit for standard rate taxpayers. As BountyHunter states, there is no capital gains tax liability. Despite Gordon Brown's mean and grudging treatment of ISAs, they remain a sound way of saving & investing. I'd suggest you take some professional advice, particularly when it comes to choosing share - or else be prepared to do your own research and act upon it. Good luck. | ![]() beardmore
19/3/2012 10:40 | no the dividend is not entirely tax free nowadays in an isa but still benefits higher rate tax payers and of course the capital growth is protected from tax within an isa | ![]() bountyhunter
19/3/2012 10:34 | That`s great DeanForest thought there had to be some rational answer for it! If i put Ng into my isa is the dividend tax free and if so can i use it to supplyment my pension without losing the tax benefits on the rest of my isa holding? | fuming fred
19/3/2012 10:31 | Probaby due to the rights issue effect. The shareprice is adjusted and so also the div per share. | ![]() yf23_1
19/3/2012 10:28 | They had a rights issue, so the dividend was adjusted to reflect this. If you took up the rights your payout increased considerably, by 32%. From The Board has recommended an increase in the final dividend to 23.47p per ordinary share ($1.9005 per American Depositary Share) in line with our policy of targeting 8% growth until March 2012, bringing the full year dividend to 36.37p per ordinary share. This 8% increase has been calculated using a rebased figure for the 2009/10 full year dividend of 33.68p (actual 38.49p). This is derived by applying a ratio of 1.1427 to the dividend for 2009/10 reflecting the bonus element of the rights issue. If approved, the final dividend will be paid on 17 August 2011 to shareholders on the register as at 3 June 2011. A scrip dividend alternative will again be offered. | ![]() deanforester
19/3/2012 10:13 | Hi everyone, I`m looking to buy some high paying dividend shares to put into a isa NG looks to fit the bill. However if my info is correct they appear to cut last years dividend. Does anyone know why and is it likely to cut the dividend in future. Thanks in advance | fuming fred

10/2/2012 10:18 | Well, Skinny, you can just imagine the conversation between the two brokers.... "You mark them up, we'll mark them down and we'll both make money as the idiots churn their portfolios." I just took it as an opportunity to top up at 625. | ferrism
10/2/2012 10:01 | Neutral? Well yeah, suppose, not expecting any fireworks here, but the generous divi will keep it safely in my portfolio. | ![]() thamestrader

10/2/2012 08:44 | That's quite a bijout plummetette this morning. Not ex-div, no news, so....? | ![]() thamestrader
08/2/2012 12:55 | So divi's 2011/12 to be 39.2p (36.3 X 8% for 2011/2012)and 2012/13 39.2p X 4% Yield = 40.72p. Divi paid in Aug is the final divi for 2011/12 Financial year and expected to be 25.27p (39.2 less interim divi paid in Jan - 13.93p = 25.27p). When RIIO is finalised at the end of 2012 and implemented in March 2013 then who knows..........????? | ![]() utyinv
