So another reason for holding these shares might be that they're going to go up 60% in 5 days?

The only reason...

The only reason anyone would want to hold these shares at present in the face of rumours pertaining to a rights issue, is for the much anticipated dividend. If it is maintained, then we are looking at a yield of 13%+ at the current share price level.

Personally, I think they'll mantain the divi, and decide on any rights mid-year, once the effects of recent interest rate cuts, HMG negotiations on the routes, and other stimulus packages have had the chance to work there way into the economy. As such, I think come thursday, on a good set of figures as expected by most analysts, we'll see very strong demand for these shares. They could be back to £4 before the week is complete. I sense an opportunity.

Dont see who we can have a big spike up last week and now a big spike down .. well some kind of downward movemment given the general market conditions... but even so .. to go from 320 on Thursday to where we are today on no news etc.. seems a bit strange to me .. think it is still going to be some time before equities are going to be fashionable again.

Looking at last year's report, I see that the currency movement has cost NEX about £250m, though as NEX says, their overseas assets should be worth more... except that nothing nowadays is worth more than a year ago! Also, they had a £216m euro loan in the last AR repayable this February (though with an option to extend for one year). I guess that is nearer £260m now. Perhaps the discussions about extending are what is leaking fear into the share price.

I've been watching these for some time, and finally bought a few. I wonder if Ross is being pressured to sell a few of the 3m he pledged against bank loans (if I remember correctly).

I was interested to read (quoted on this BB) that growth was expected to be flat on the East Coast line. I've traveled on it only 5 times in the last year, but each time there have been dozens of poor fellows standing in the aisles.

"The Group is approaching the end of a period of significant investment for the future and, underpinned by a decline in capital expenditure, we are focused on delivering strong cash generation in 2009."

I don't think they meant from Shareholders....so i'm not convinced about a rights issue.

just shorting speculators ahead of results, should see a sharp retrace next week, at this level jorge could make an outright bid.

I would really liked to have been inside the head of Jorge Cosmen when he invested 7 million pounds jus under a month ago. Also what was the thinking behind the Prudential latest round of heavy investing in this stock in the last few weeks.
