The coop now has the Montgras Reserva Carmenere 2012 in stock, instead of the 2013.
Just tasting it now, it is different to the 2013, but just as moreish.
One day all red wines will be this good.
Cheers

thegreatgeraldo, do you know of any other wines like this?

I have spent my life looking for the perfect cheddar ..... even a pilgrimage to Cheddar Gorge ..... but ,so far, it has eluded me.

Indeed I believe the Holy Grail is probably made of cheddar cheese.

Bionic, funny thing is I have had the same problem at Lidl. I can't relate to the culture, in the same way as I can at Aldi.
It does take time at first to make the change, and if your time is worth £50/hr, there is probably no financial justification.
I put my time in at £20/hr and find shopping around quite worthwhile.

Have you noticed that people carry around their Lidl bags like a badge of honour? I'm not sure if it's inverted snobbery. They haven't just been to Lidl , but keep using the bag like someone who once proudly went to Harrods. Perhaps it because they charge for them and they want to get their money's worth.
We tried to go shopping in Lidl once , but the choice was so appalling that we gave up. As I recall , they only had roll on deodorant and one choice of kitchen towel. The fruit and veg was also sadly lacking meaning that you would have to go elsewhere afterwards. My time is probably worth £50 an hour in my deluded eyes , so although I don't mind the Asda at Burgh Heath (the nicest one in Britain , minimal chavs) I cannot justify queuing up during busy periods. So I go to Waitrose and get a free coffee and paper off them.

o/t I think attitudes to Aldi in the UK will certainly change. I know mine have.
It's not just about the massive discount over branded goods, it's about taste and quality.

In our family we have conducted a number of taste tests [sad, but how else do you really know?], between branded and Aldi products. Aldi lost in two areas, 'Devon' Cream Crackers and Fresh Ground coffee. All others seem better tasting. I won't bore you with a complete list, but notable winners on taste are Fillet Steak, Breakfast Cereals, Croissants, Mature cheddar, Mozzarella, Humus.

The Grapevine Merlot at £3.29 is tempting.

hxxps://www.aldi.co.uk/en/product-range/drinks/wine-cellar/red-wine/red-wine-product-detail-page/ps/p/grapevine-merlot/

I usually prefer wine made from the grapes themselves but for £3.29 it's cheap enough and maybe there's some flavour in the actual vine.

Why do they say ■Succulent, smooth and full of juicy plums and black cherries? If I wanted plum or cherry wine I'd buy some. And who would want "bright purple wine"? Disgusting

Hi bionic, No I don't live on the IoW or work for coop! I just find their selections tend to suit my palate. They do offer some bulk/dross wines, but even these cheaper wines are better tasting than the Sainsbury offers.

Aldi have also started selling higher priced wines. I tried the Rioja, which was adequate.

That's not true! They care about us posh folk. Now Asda , that's another story.

Fair enough. I just don't believe that Waitrose would buy in a horrible wine just because it was cheap. Basic and lacking complexity yes , but horrible no. It takes a long time to earn a reputation and Lidl have not reached that stage.

Well I certainly wouldn't buy a £19 Margaux I've never heard of from Lidl and I don't mind paying that much. The average punter must think it's for a case.

I take your point.

£26quid for a bottle of plonk is a little outside the average Lidl's customer range.
