27/2/2011 03:15 | Guys, if you EVER get the chance to go to California, stay at the Lavender B&B at Yountville, just North of San Francisco. Its got the best upmarket feel about it and the number of Mich' starred eataries is amazing. The rooms are fab and you get free wine and nibbles from 4.30 to 6.30, very nice! Pinot Noir is the best of the best out here. You can pick a cracker for about $15 and a Petit Shiraz for about the same. Enjoy! | bobp
05/12/2010 13:26 | Just finished a very delcious box of Portuguese Ramos Reservada 2009. Opened a bottle of my usual Hardy's afterwards and it tasted terrible. Very very nice. | dysonhooverman
19/11/2010 15:57 | Source;the connexion 2010 Beaujolais Nouveau is here November 18, 2010 THE 2010 Beaujolais Nouveau est arrivé and the first bottles were opened at 25 a pop in Japan while most of France was still asleep. Almost 40 million bottles of Beaujolais Nouveau will be drunk in the next three weeks in a welcome respite from the troubles of the wine industry that have seen 1,400 vineyards close down in the past 10 years. Corks popped around the world just after midnight as the fruity new-harvested wine was sampled by millions: with six million bottles going to Japan alone amongst 110 countries. Bertrand Chatelet, head of Sicarex research institute for the study of Beaujolais wines, describes the 2010 wine as "very aromatic with strong hints of wild strawberries, raspberries and redcurrants". That augurs well for this year after an excellent 2009 vintage but the sour reputation of previous years' new wines has been accused of tainting the rest of the industry in Beaujolais. Now vintners are launching a new advertising campaign focusing on wine that you can lay down and drink in years to come vins de garde. Inter Beaujolais president Dominique Capart said the problem was of their own making: "We have strained the vines for Beaujolais nouveau but our challenge is to continue to produce quality wines that can be laid down | waldron

03/8/2010 15:24 | I don't what they are like round your way , but the wine list was still in mint condition at the one I was at , it had never been touched. | bionicdog
03/8/2010 15:12 | My local JDW's does Hardys Private Bin for £5.99 - they can't make a lot on that either. | isis
17/7/2010 19:13 | I've always been a Rhone fan ..... I heard an 'expert' on R 4 saying that '07 was the best year for the wines for a long time. I've bought '06 and '07 Sablet and even I can tell the difference .... '07 being much better thsn '06. | marwalker
17/7/2010 17:02 | Forgot to mention twas vintage 2006 with plenty of sediment. Got a few left, but I prefer to open and enjoy. Any decent deals on nationwide at the mo? Think my favorite ever was Best's Great Western bin 0 shiraz. Now that wasn't cheap if my memory serves me well, but what a fine hearty wine that was. Vin '98 or 2000 I think? Happy glugging. | lufc5
17/7/2010 16:51 | Aye , the 28 and 128 are great. If you can lay them down for 5 years or so they get even better. | bionicdog
17/7/2010 14:59 | My local Ex Thresher had a deal on Penfolds bin 28. £6.99. Tried one then went back 2 days later for a case(2x6) and got him down to £6.49. I was rather chuffed with that. What a deal I thought. | lufc5
17/7/2010 14:06 | Worth a try .... Majestics Castillo Estables Grand Reserva 2002 .... bit of a poor mans rioja ...... but much nicer than cheap rioja and just around £6 with the current discount. I generally think that it's best to buy the highest quality wine from a less desirable source than the cheapest of an expensive highly marketed or well known 'brand.' | marwalker
16/7/2010 12:56 | I will be trying this tonight and will report back. I've never had a bad wine from Gerard Bertrand. | bionicdog
14/7/2010 19:20 | Try this , it's mental. It's dry but yet still fruity and it makes your teeth feel like you haven't cleaned them for a week. The bottle looks the part as well and there's no english translation on the back. Also this if you can get it , but it's only available in flagship stores. Your guests will make a face when you present them with a wine from Georgia! They also do a great little free book instore , actually it's not little at all , it's 260 pages and lists all of their wines. | bionicdog
14/7/2010 19:08 | bionic, thanks for the recommendation on waitrose. any more recent red wines getting the thumbs up? | bamboo2
05/6/2010 21:27 | from sainsburys, currently enjoying 'saint andre' cabernet syrah. mmm. .................... edit, its got to be said, this wine varies. some bottles are fantastic while others are soso. the fantastic ones are super smooth, the soso are quite acidic. why is this? i've checked the labels etc. the nicer saint andre bottle has lower shoulders than the bottle shape pictured. anyone else noticed great variation in wines of the same provenance? another edit! after some dithering along the wine aisle and many tastings, i think there are definately two different wines on offer here. the high shoulder, and high label version [pictured] is to be avoided. the low shoulder, and low label bottle, is the one to go for. | bamboo2 |
