Surprised it's been quiet here last few days as share price has made a significant move up?
Presume a few have sold..... but mm's still don't have much stock and price is rising nicely as people continue to buy. Feels good to me :)
A34 - did your mate say anything more on possible takeover?

I bumped into my contact again in Norwich and was told that the company have been expanding into new markets with lots of new contracts. They have been extremely busy upgrading the production lines as a result to cope with the new orders. Seen from the shop floor they are looking very prosperous. I have added further to my holding.

New £15,500 share purchase today by chairman, Michael Bell... 7,500 at 206 pence.

Relatively small compared to his total holding, but as good as a trading statement (since MSI never does these ).

Yes, you may well be right about not returning to the 'good old days' of 50-100% annual rises (unless they put in a stinkin hot set of interims). Certainly last year was a bit flat end-to-end. However, I take encouragement from assuming that all the PIs chasing the hot rises have moved on elsewhere ;-) and so leaving ponderous (ISA'ble) beasts like this to boring farts like myself :-)

Regarding aircraft carriers - I presume they must have _some_ guns - you just cant see them cause the overall thing is so big :-). Even for frigates, MSI are in the "secondary" armament market, not the 'big' gun one. Of course, it is all just rumour just now anyway...

Hi david. Your para about transparency is why I'm not back in MSI at present - it's just not cheap enough for me given I'm just not sure it'll ever get the share price it "deserves" - assuming it performs.

I do like MSI, but those gains in earlier times from when it was so obviously undervalued may be the best of times for the company. Still, it may well surprise me to the upside, so good luck.

BTW, do aircraft carriers really carry big gun systems (not being a gun system expert!)? I've never ever seen any reference to MSI providing for aircraft carriers in the past, so not sure the loss of frigate work would be compensated for.

Hi Rivaldo,

Ah, but aircraft carriers also need guns - win-win...

"Highly acclaimed, the MSI naval weapon system fulfils a multi role requirement and is fitted to all classes of vessel as a primary armament on patrol craft and MCM vessels and as secondary armament for frigates and larger vessels."

And, of course, its not just guns that the defense side do...

I'm happy to hold, particularly as we approach the end of year. Company bought 200,000 shares in July @ 187.5 & positive (but short!) trading statement on 6th Aug. The "progressive growth trend" referred to in that statement presumably refers to this, from the June finals...

"In the defence division, work progresses effectively on both UK Royal Navy and foreign naval projects. Recent success in booking a number of new equipment orders for overseas navies' ship building programmes has added clarity to our prospective longer term revenue visibility. Advanced technologies introduced in the forgings division have been instrumental in creating positive commercial benefits, as we expand our market share. The petrol station forecourt construction joint-venture business traded to a high standard, despite revenue being lower than last year, influenced largely by start-up delays in clients' construction programmes.

"The Group's phased forward order book has enjoyed a significant boost recently and is now some 24% higher than that recorded at the corresponding time last year, reflecting our strengthening position in the current buoyant markets we serve."

I know the lack of 'transparency' leaves MSI open to speculation but I actually like its way of doing things. At current price, I think there is much more upside than any possible downside and happy to tuck away in ISA.

PS. Liked the news article :-) Whatever is that tower structure in the background? Do MSI equip paratroopers as well?

In again today. I live in the Norwich area and according to a friend who works there something unusual seemed to be afoot about a month ago. He thought they might get taken over. However that was a month ago and I have not seen him since. He is not on the financial or management side so cannot be at all sure. However they are making plenty of guns!

Very good value imo

These will get bought up more and more as November results approach. Directors were buying shares @ 199.5p recently too.

That's as bullish a statement as you will ever get from MSI. On a historic p/e of 10, paying a 2% div and debt free, directors buying shares, this is good value imo.

Their own expectations must be pretty good if directors are buying shares too, imo.

I agree rivaldo but well wacked of that high by 20% and those director buys just say there's something cooking here imo. They look liable to a bid imo, from their size, I think there could be any number of companies that could buy these for their market cap, nick the cash and sell off two of the divisions and keep the part they want and end up with that bit for nothing.

Deep down tho I think this year is the year when they increase margins on the back of rising steel prices last year.

Hi CR. I guess MSI may or may not bid re the aircraft carriers, but they've lost out in the past to others - I've searched for MSI systems on aircraft carriers in the past and not found anything. For example:

That's not to say MSI aren't a good investment. I made good money on them in the past as you have, but they're soooo frustrating and volatile sometimes that this is one of the few shares which I try to time in respect of buying around results time etc rather than in the likely hiatus in between. Which means they'll shoot up now!
