I'm no expert but as discussed before laser effectors are probably a way off operational readiness and also we understand that the Paladin or other MSI mounts are effector agnostic so a laser effector could be mounted in lieu of a conventional cannon. Certainly not something I'm concerned with re: MSI's prospects but happy to hear other people's views. |

What I haven't seen anywhere is the range of the 50kw laser, and also how many bursts per minute it can emit. It will, like in star trek, only be able to store so much charge and will have to be recharged after firing X times. Interesting that the big problem is the weather. The 4 units being sent overseas won't be doing any live fire testing but appear to be solely for weather/dust trials to see how it operates. They are also not so good at rockets, artillery and mortars according to the reports.On that basis, it would seem that whilst really really useful (assuming it can fire enough multiple bursts), it can only be part of a layered defence. Which is where the 30mm (or equivalent) SHORAD comes in. I could see the layered defence consist of 5 inch guns for 15km range, 30mm for 2-3km range and lasers for shorter than that. Class 1 drones are less than 150kg,.class 2 is 150-600kg and class 3 are more than 600kg. .. |

Army Vice Chief of Staff Gen. James Mingus announced the new deployment of Directed Energy Maneuver Short Range Air Defense (DE M-SHORAD) prototypes to the Middle East. The Army developed the weapons system in coordination with RTX, formerly Raytheon. The former employer of Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, RTX, has received over $100 million to develop the platform.
DE M-SHORAD, according to RTX, is a 50-kilowatt vehicle-mounted laser designed to intercept drones, missiles, and rockets at short range.
RTX and the Pentagon believe laser systems will be a cheaper alternative for downing cheap drones and rockets. The four interceptors deployed to the Middle East are mounted on Stryker armored vehicles."

Yes I did a bit of research but couldn't find any MSI reference plus APS now have a containerised version of their SkyCTRL and/or fieldCTRL offering which can be easily confused with the paladin when reading narrative. |
Obviously I hope you are correct but APS normally reference MSI if involved and I think they designate the product as SkyCtrl SKID.
I do though believe they are now delivering land based systems to 2 middle eastern customers. |

GCC client. We are aware that MSI already have a presence in the region with their land based offerings but this could be a new customer.
Part of the contract award noted in the June prelims or a separate order…? Production and delivery ongoing since December 2023 will feed nicely into the Prelims.
