We may get more detail on this when the results are published in ten days but what appears likely is that they will have net debt at 31 December as a result of the acquisition instead of the previous net cash, making the shares much more risky. As an income investor I'm also concerned about the effect on the divi because of the cash situation, at least at first, but again we'll know with the results.

anhar having read your posts concerning the purchase of quidco and the amount paid for it which you indicate that you think it was too expensive.
i think you are missing the fact that mony has far more customers to cross sell this service too and create more revenue than quidco had managed in the past,i don't think it is fair to measure quidco value on past performance alone it is more about what mony and quidco can do together jmho steve.

Maybe, but taking the full picture into consideration including the likelihood of a takeover, I think this has considerable long term potential. We just need confirmation of the dividend in order to instigate a re-rating.spud

Dlg likely a safer bet with higher dividend.

Price staying nice and low as I accumulate for the ISA. I suspect there's some nervousness over the dividend and the shrinking number of energy suppliers for comparison purposes.

17th Feb should reveal all.

Indeed but it's not the results that are late, it's the announcement of the date. The release date is actually around the same as last year. What concerned me is that all the other shares I hold with 31 Dec year ends announced their release dates well in advance of MONY so it wasn't looking too good on this point.

Anyway at least we have a date now and encouraging that the date itself is not delayed, though I'm still nervous about this share due mainly to Quidco.

anhar: Thanks for the info. I sold. I've never held a share where late results ended up being a good thing (although I often buy back in AFTER the late results at a better price).

Finally and very late, they have announced that the 2021 results will released on 17 Feb.

As I suggested earlier I am a little concerned about this share, especially after the large and initially cash destroying Quidco acquisition, and the very late announcement of the results date has exacerbated my concerns. Hope I'm wrong but if necessary, and as purely an income investor, I may be willing to dump it at a hefty loss if the divi is hit or other negative facts are revealed.

Perhaps but I'd guess that the rise is far more likely to be just market noise rather than any beneficial corporate action. The great majority of share price movements are random, have no reason.

Thanks for the info anhar. I guess that succinctly explains the fall. So the reason for the recent rise probably must be something else. I'm hoping for some sort of corporate action.

Although I still hold for income, I'm quite wary now of MONY. The relatively very large acquisition of Quidco is making me nervous, driving the company into debt from its former net cash position, making it riskier in general and specifically important to me, putting the divi at risk. Major acquisitions too often don't work out very well and end up damaging the business rather than enhancing it. Hope I'm wrong and for the time being am giving them the benefit of the doubt.

I don't know if it's an ominous sign or not, but I see that they haven't yet announced the release date of the 21 results on their website. This contrasts with all the other big companies I hold with 31 December year ends which have done so.

I consider it one of the lesser quality shares in my income port, which I'll prob sell if its yield drops to the FTSE100.

This is having a good run over the past few days.
I guess rising interest rates are good for comparing DEBIT and CREDIT cards rates.

With bank interest rates rising more people will shop around for lower rates.
