A start at a new thread with the company's name. I don't usually post a lot but I'll update as we move on.

A FTSE 250 company listed on the London Stock Exchange and Euronext Dublin.

It invests across the UK and Europe in private high-growth technology companies with global ambitions. We do this because we believe the future is being built, today, by Europe’s entrepreneurs. Where investments qualify, it combines three pools of capital (across plc, EIS and VCT vehicles) to invest in the best European technology companies.

Yes, I know, LOL. As you say some while back

Assuming Rambutan is dead, shouldn't someone open a new thread called by the proper company name? Might get a few more readers.

18th May: "....An uplift in Thought Machine's valuation was anticipated in Molten's trading update released on 28 April 2022 which highlighted an expected NAV per share of not less than 929p. The carrying value of Molten's holding in Thought Machine will be finalised as part of the ongoing year-end process in the Final Results scheduled for 13 June 2022. Alongside the recent announcement of Aiven's Series D funding round, this round provides further confirmation of the scale and funding capabilities of Molten's portfolio"..Roll-on Monday, 13th June....isn't this starting to look like a rout?

private valuations tend to lag mkt about 6-12 months but already seeing some blood flowing. and they tend to lag on way up too. so this is a good one to run on the way up. poss some more pain to come but you are probably nearer the bottom than the top.

Yes, I noticed that. Interestingly the share price was 800p on both 31st March 2021 and 2022 which reflects a very different market attitude to GROW's investment prospects (from premium to discount).
I guess we should also assume that the NAV today is less than on 31st March 2022 so a lower discount but still more than 10%

NAV per share (unaudited) is expected to be not less than 929p (31 March 2021: 743p)That's a 24% discount with the price at 708p.

Yes that suggests gains in other parts of the portfolio should have offset these losses, and as I say it's possible they've trimmed some of these positions since the interims.

Riverman, Thanks for that. The RNS on 9/3 assured us that "The increase in fair value supports the previously announced year-end guidance of fair value growth in the region of 35%." Trustpilot and Cazoo share price seems to be flat since then, Uipath is down around 20% - so most of the fall that you mention should be already recognised in their 35% uplift?

The 3 listed companies Trustpilot, Cazoo and Uipath all down around two thirds since interims. Together, these accounted for around 15% of portfolio so expecting roughly 10% hit from this, although this could potentially be offset by gains in other parts of the portfolio. It's also possible they may have reduced some of these positions.

At the half year there were only 8 investments valued at over £50m, so surely it has to be one of them

In any case today's announcement gives hope that GROW has been oversold recently. The market might broadly DCF the hell out of valuations when the outlook for inflation and interest rates steepens, but assume zero pricing power of the portfolio constituents? assume intellectual property is a depreciating asset? assume slower growth of disruptors? I don't know.

The valuation uplift is welcomed, but the reiteration of the 35% is the icing on the cake!

Slightly vague announcement but still positive:

Investment Update
Molten (LSE: GROW, Euronext Dublin: GRW), a leading venture capital firm investing in and developing high growth digital technology businesses, today announces that following the closing of an externally led round in a portfolio company which is yet to be disclosed, the fair value of Molten's holding has increased by GBP76m based on the value of the round.

The increase in fair value supports the previously announced year-end guidance of fair value growth in the region of 35%.

Economic outlook esp. inflation and interest rates continues to cloud market perceptions of private equity valuations. Uncertain times so share price could be suppressed for a while but any rebound liable to be quite sudden. Victim of indiscriminate risk-off imho.
