Been very strong of late due to their cyclical nature, bond yield rising are advantageous, completely different mandates to CGI.Realy annoying & lazy when comparing yield & discount over short periods.

Skyship,
Certainly keen on any analysis/comparisons like this but don't see where you get the 4.1% yield on CGI.
From ADVFN financials I see 82 Canadian cents ~ 2.5% ??

Tilts - I take your point; however:

MCT: Yld 5.4%, disc 13%; NAV over 12m = -7.2%

CGI: Yld 4.1%, disc 33%; NAV over 12m = +37.4%

Well, I know where I'm happy to be. Still, I won't post those comparisons anymore.

CGI mandate is to invest in long-term growth...and income

MCT is to provide a high level of income...with capital growth

Totally different!

As a single choice of a Canadian trust to hold, then worthwhile pointing out that people have a choice. I suspect the mandate is pretty similar...

SKYSHIP,

They have different mandates. You would expect them to.

Not certain why you are comparing them!

dsct,

You can't compare CGI and MCT as they have different mandates. Given the choice I prefer CGI. I hold both, so happy that one complements the other. In terms of discount, CGI is always wide, whereas MCT have traded at a tighter discount.

Many thanks for your prompt replies.

@tiltonboy - I have glanced at their portfolio, and note the top 10 holdings account for 42%. These large cap holdings would also provide diversity from my usual small cap investments.

@escapetohome - I don't mind an oddity lol (as per DUKE and SONG), and I see people not being aware as a bonus. The North America exposure would also diversify my portfolio.

@SKYSHIP - I read this board before posting, and noted your CGI alternative. As you show, MCT has underperformed CGI, but this may be a reason to prefer MCT - catch-up prospect. MCT would need to increase approx. 50% to bring in line with CGI in your chart, although obviously not as simplistic as that.

I have my own spreadsheets to analyse P&L, B/S, and C/F reports, and may now compare MCT and CGI to show any stand-out differences to investigate.

I suppose one alternative would be to split my potential investment between the two.

Thanks again.

Really like this IT, been a holder for many years.

The only bearish point im aware of is that its a bit unusual, a bit of an oddity. Middlefield are a canadian or us company fund manager , but this is listed on uk market. So not home grown. People are not aware of this trust , its an unknown quantity, undiscovered.

Great assets, pleased to be here.

dsct - all I would advise, is what I have been advising on this thread for the past two years - take a long hard look at the far better value Canadian & General Investments (CGI). They have massively outperformed MCT, yet still trade on a 31% NAV discount versus the 15% here at MCT!

dsct.

Research their portfolio, and take a view on markets.

I like MCT, there is an attractive yield, and I believe the discount is wider than it should be.

Hello Gents and Ladies,

MCT has recently come to my attention, probably due to incorrect information on ADVFN, but upon a brief initial glance, I've decided to look into this further.

Whilst I'm doing some research, I would be grateful if anyone with more knowledge of this company could provide a brief overview, and maybe more importantly, any bearish signals, to counter my current bullish view.

ADVFN are incorrectly showing a Mkt Cap of £1.89m, due to there being only 2.28m shares in issue, and this skewed the financials/ratios shown here.

For me now, the discount to NAV, North American diversity and the 6% divi paid quarterly are what has initially interested me. I also hold DUKE and SONG, both quarterly divi, so this may possibly be a worthy addition to the income/compound growth section of my portfolio.

I will be looking through their accounts, RNSs, website etc. as part of my research.

Thanks in advance.
