Tipped on mumsnet by montybilge. There's a thought. I think the mums will make short shrift of him though particularly if he continues to address one and all as "boys".

Hallelujah: the penny has finally dropped. And now the slow realisation that the Micro share price will not soar on Monday betracker funds pile in .... Wonder how long that will take.

Typo
Well done you were right and spotted the announcement the other day, yes we are in on Monday, just spoke to stock exchange. No rns needed. I suppose in theory Japanese could pull out last minute of Arm takeover. So maybe Micro Focus being cautious. Arm out, we are in.

I can everyone saying Micro Focus not in, no announcements, if they are added Monday.
I really think take off.
But apart from indexes, Micro Focus with the low pound, must be earning a fortune.
Could we see special dividends resume in November, fund managers love this.

I can't see 'investors' flocking to buy just because a stock moves up into the bottom of the FTSE 100 index. If you follow these things you'll notice stocks often fall the day before FTSE 100 promotion and rise before demotion.

Thats why Typo if your right and its confirmed, by a rns. Then Monday I expect take off, as investors been wrong footed.
If it was calculated at tonights close then we would not get in with our ex div.

Andrew, it's already been confirmed as replacing ARM on Monday, being top of the reserve list following the September review.

It won't get into the FTSE100 this time around, to replace either Berkeley or ARM, but next time it may do. A £20+ share price will be required, so it's a slow bet for December, but a worthwhile one, IMHO. It's a tad on the pricey side now, but a solid business, and Woodford has an interest as well as other good institutional holders. Also, the divi is reasonable and well covered; the drop in sterling should help offshore sales/profits, and it's in the COBOL business, which is still there and profitable despite the age of the language. A good share to hold anyway, and with the potential fillip of a FTSE100 place at the end of the year, which will produce a (short term?) rise in price when the trackers have to buy (and which purchases will hopefully be more than the 250 trackers sell).

Surely tracker funds aim to track? They're not paid to be clever and beat the index - that would risk mistracking. Therefore they'll attempt to track any weighting changes as close as possible to when they occur. That's why I expect they'll be quite a high volume (perhaps around 4m shares) changing hands at close today.

Remember, FTSE 250 tracker funds are going to be selling and FTSE 100 funds may not have much interest in a company that contributes less than 0.25% to the index. FTSE 350 funds probably won't do anything.

Unless the number of shares in the company changes the reweighting is pretty much a one off event, so trackers aren't going to have a long term effect. Trackers don't have to buy more if the share price goes up, or sell if it goes down!

DikuNot hot money, but if in on Monday as Typo seems so sure, tracker funds will have to start buying in the 3rd quarter. Not saying fireworks, but underpins the price. Ex 37.4p so not to bad.Orange the muppet as posted I see, glad can't see what the filtered troll as to say. Lol.

According to Montybilge, tracker funds will start buying on Monday AFTER the company has been admitted to the FTSE 100. That is of course reacting to events after they have happened and not tracking and why all tracker funds will have the shares they need BEFORE Monday. Don't let simple facts though get in the way of Montybilge's shower of lunacy.

Relax. They're going in on Monday. Perhaps the company will announce it, if they deem it important enough to warrant the cost of an RNS.

If you're expecting fireworks as a result of going in I fear you're going to be disappointed. They'll be a large volume in the closing auction tonight when there might be a bit of a price blip. Doubt anything spectacular.

It is strange, typo posted the link, so looks ok for Micro Focus.I think they must be waiting for Arm to officially delist 5th Sept.Up until then I suppose in theory Japanese could pull out. 99.9% certain it will go through. 95% of shareholders voted it through.

Strange that Micro, unless I missed it, have never even said anything about the possibility of joining the FTSE 100.

I trust the Divi will calculated on the £/$ conversion rate prior to the latest increase in the value of the £.
