11/4/2020 10:38 | Agreed. Unless it's a Tesco scenario - profit increase offset by increased staffing costs. There has to be at least some of that. The operational gearing says McColls ought to be even better from the sales uplift. | spectoacc
10/4/2020 16:04 | Bullish for McColls? There was also another surge in demand for alcohol, with sales for beers, wines and spirits increasing by 15 per cent compared to the same time last year, as pubs and bars remain shut across the UK. Can more report on the situation at some more actual McColls shops? their margins are better than conventional supermarkets so an increase will put more money in their bottomline. Also, all the people who used to dine out will now need to buy groceries. | farrugia
10/4/2020 14:24 | Same, Tesco queue longest I've seen, Morrisons enormous but fast moving. More than can be said about their checkouts, where they were only allowing one person at a time across two - the second person would have been too close. Which is hilarious, when you think how near people get to each other in aisles. But all good for local convenience. | spectoacc
10/4/2020 12:15 | As expected, long queues at Supermarkets around the car parks as they struggle to cope with people restrictions and distancing, cars doing u turns and driving away. has to be good for local stores. | cliff edge
10/4/2020 11:45 | On our daily walk yesterday, the queue at our local Coop was too long for me to bother joining again. | aleman
09/4/2020 13:29 | Excellent, thanks. Can't imagine any different anywhere else. | spectoacc
09/4/2020 13:15 | Just been into McColls Sandbach. Shelves being filled non stop on staff member. The other serving. Lots if booze sold. He said its the busiest its ever been | cambourne
09/4/2020 09:50 | Excellent easter coming up. Great weather. Everyone will be getting BBQ stuff, booze, easter eggs and stocked up for the bank holiday. No ones aloud out everyone will be having a party at home I would have thought. Anyone bought anything through deliveroo yet? | cambourne
09/4/2020 09:43 | @cliff - good point, had failed to notice it was Easter this weekend. Hey, we all need some time off work ;) | spectoacc
08/4/2020 18:53 | Good recovery play here good luck all | bubsy2
08/4/2020 17:02 | Difficult to imagine how the Supermarkets will cope with Easter trading this weekend with all of the restrictions on people numbers, distancing etc. they are closed on Sunday as usual which traditionally pushes trade forward to Thurs - Sat. can see this being a very busy Easter in Convenience. I still believe that the current crisis is damaging supermarket revenues and that whilst the +30% increases were there during the pre lock down period, these are being eroded on a daily basis post lock down. and whilst I am conscious of restaurant, take away, school meals, pub closures etc. and the resulting increased basket spends, just think there are less baskets going through but many more through local stores. No half price Easter eggs in Mc Colls next week? | cliff edge
08/4/2020 15:18 | Not sure Tesco need as many extra staff as they claim, but the checkouts do seem well-manned, and they've 2 or 3 extra on crowd control outside. | spectoacc
08/4/2020 10:53 | Thanks Aleman, that’s a good write up. | mr roper
08/4/2020 10:08 | Main article in small company sharewatch. It is thier main BUY recommendaton. Wholesalers to convenience stores report orders jumping 200% | cambourne
08/4/2020 09:04 | Sold half mine this morning for a free carry on the rest. Keeping the rest as I’m looking forward To seeing how the story develops from here on in. | mr roper
08/4/2020 08:41 | Tesco's staff costs looked enormously higher - but how much of that is to try to justify/keep the business rates freebie? All looked very carefully worded to me. | spectoacc
08/4/2020 08:21 | I am a little surprised that Tesco forecast a net nil impact from Covid due to higher staff and distribution costs. This is why MCLS is in a sweet spot because it won’t have the same proportionate increase in costs associated with the higher revenues achieved IMO, revenue up, costs flat is my expectation | rimau1
07/4/2020 18:24 | Agree Mr Roper, picked up more in the mid 20’s but genuinely think price has significant upside from here to reflect (hopefully) falling debt levels and a pick up in sales and margin. It was cheap before covid, but this situation has opened the opportunity of a lifetime for management to deliver for shareholders (and themselves!). | davro
07/4/2020 17:50 | Excellent day here, rerate underway. | mr roper
07/4/2020 14:34 | Double average daily volume so far. Good to see | mr roper |
