15/9/2019 16:26 | As a shareholder what I would like to see in all annual reports of all retialiers is a complete list of stores and how much each store makes as a profit or loss. McColl's most probably still has 200 or so loss making stores, mainly the older newsagents and smaller convenience stores. | loganair
15/9/2019 16:11 | The only thing going to low teens is R Kelly | ashton01
15/9/2019 15:22 | This could go to the low teens. | imnotspartacus

05/9/2019 20:01 | So you are the big buyer! | scobak
05/9/2019 17:51 | Because I bought in today ;-) | strutt12
05/9/2019 17:44 | 2 big Delayed buys of 250,000 shares a total of 500,000 shares (a little under 0.5% of McColl's) went through today which I assume was the same person, costing them a total of £250k. | loganair
05/9/2019 17:20 | How have they closed this at 44p52 week low | sbb1x
29/8/2019 13:50 | Simon Bowler, retail analyst at Numis, said: 'We believe McColl's are back on the front foot in terms of strategic direction and priorities. 'However, we await further evidence of these initiatives delivering traction, mindful that the business is operating against a challenging retail backdrop.' Thomas Brereton from GlobalData said: 'The question is over how long this transformation is taking, and whether vital corporate measures have the strength to underpin McColl's metamorphosis if it drags on.' Brereton added that the sharp decline in its share price over the year indicates that 'belief in a recovery is quickly waning'. | loganair
29/8/2019 13:47 | Like the rest of the UK grocery sector, over the summer McColl's trading performance has been benchmarking against the significant outperformance seen in 2018, which saw not only a prolonged heatwave but also the excitement of England's performance in the football World Cup. Above all the circumstances in 2018 were especially beneficial to the convenience channel, driving big spikes in categories such as alcohol and soft drinks. In comparison 2019 has had much less to boost sales. But softer comparatives running through its Q4 are likely to enable McColl's to build stronger like-for-like momentum towards the end of its financial year. | loganair

29/8/2019 11:51 | It seems to me when it comes to supermarkets they blame their poor performance on the weather being too hot or it was too cold rather than they were stocking the wrong items at the time. | loganair
29/8/2019 11:39 | Does in line results expectation suggest margins are up? If forecasts are intact after 3 quarters, the 4p dividend forecast creates a very generous yield at this price. The latest Lidl I've seen open in Yorkshire was not a convenience store at all but a large store with parking for maybe 100 or so cars. Not that it helps when it puts general pressure in pricing. | aleman
29/8/2019 11:38 | Has any one been reading how when Aldi/Lidl open stores close by, Morrisons have had to close a few of their supermarkets because they have been unable to compete with them. I still think once McColl's have sorted their estate of convenience stores out and seen whether selling Safeway products in McColl's stores or the stores that have been branded as Morrison convenience stores, which ever has done better, Morrisons may buy them out. | loganair
29/8/2019 11:29 | Well - don't forget that in spite of this weather hiccup, they still expect in-line FY results. Also the Morrisons conversions have a long way to run, and are allegedly trading very well. | spectoacc
29/8/2019 11:13 | Since 2014 McColl's has been closing around 40 to 50 newsagents per year as and when their leases expire, down from 520 to around 270 today and been opening stores at a rate of around 10 per year on an adhoc basis. The average size of a stores they close is 1,000 square ft, while the average size of new stores is 1,700 square ft with 2.5x the turn over. | loganair
29/8/2019 10:58 | LfLs are a little diappointing with the weather but it looks like they've closed a few more stores in Q3. The question is why? If it's more newsagents closing, margins might be up slightly as costs fall - but it could be for all sorts of reasons. | aleman
29/8/2019 10:02 | I'm surprised at how poor the figures are, especially as selling the Safeways produce is now well under way and up and running. | loganair
29/8/2019 08:45 | Yes with McColls they do benefit significantly from long periods of hot weather as they did last year. Cans of soft drinks, bottled water, ice creams etc all have very good margins and soar in heatwaves. MCLS also won't benefit from pre-Brexit stocking up by the consumer as its prices are too expensive. | kinwah
29/8/2019 08:24 | It's as if the shares already knew what the trading update was going to say. Is the weather effect that predictable? | aleman
29/8/2019 07:25 | "The fundamentals of the convenience channel are strong and our focus remains on good retail execution whilst maintaining strong capital discipline. We continue to make operational progress and we anticipate results in line with expectations for the full year." But good call @Kinwah post ~957, sales figs poor. | spectoacc
29/8/2019 07:22 | So people are buying fewer groceries 'because of Brexit' and there actually being a bit of rain this summer versus drought last year? Or McColl's is defining its marketing concept as marginal... | edmondj
28/8/2019 23:16 | Well he used to be until he bought in here :) I'm expecting signs of a turn around and hopefully some insight into how Morrison's pilots are progressing | lukehold |
