Springboard forecast retail spend to increase at Easter if the weather had improved. The fall in footfall been disastrous for retailers. My local Marks was quiet mid afternoon in both Fashion and food yesterday.

I don't think it was just the weather yesterday as people are also over borrowed. I say that because some data said online fell as well.

Outside of the FTSE 350, DFS Furniture racked up strong gains as it posted an expected drop in half-year profit and revenue but struck a confident tone on its outlook, bucking the downcast retail trend of late.

And another to add to the list...

2,000 jobs under threat at fashion chain

About 2,000 jobs are under threat as another high street retailer faces tough trading conditions.

The company that owns Select, a fashion chain aimed at young women, is seeking a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) that would let it slash rents and close unprofitable stores.

The chain has 183 stores and also trades online with some 4,000 products.

Earlier this month fashion chain New Look announced plans to close 60 stores as part of a rescue deal.

Well it did hit 272p today

But then loads ran for the exit

VOL still quite high so it looks like the slide is set to continue and 250p get a test IMO

Huge difference in GBP:USD year on year. Now trading at 1.42USD vs 1.2USD last year. Can only help import/clothing costs and margins.

Volume went up again and whilst MKS ended up a bit ... it dropped lower in the day at one point

Candlestick wise MKS might nudge up a bit to retest 273p one would have thought

However the USA market fell several hundred points lower after the UK market closed
It does that quite often

So tomorrow it will be a USA futures driven start ... and what happens in the USA now will begin to dominate elsewhere , Mr Trump is now in charge of the markets.

Market report:

Marks & Spencer jumped 3.1p to 268.4p on the back of an announcement earlier in the week that supermarket industry veteran Stuart Machin would be joining to head up its food division.

His appointment suggests that boss Steve Rowe’s shake-up of the senior management team is almost complete, boosting investor confidence.
