imo if M&S was smart it would snap up sains. sains is under pressure because its sales metrics are poor and it probably needs to retire space. imo, brought under M&S the sains problems could be managed much more effectively. along with the huge buying synergies, they could create billions of value, and could see massive boosts to cash flow. imo dyor etc

IMO the more M&S shares rise, the more compelling the case is to buy sainsburys

Good stuff QANTAS. I will say that with group sales increasing less than 2% the shares are still worth no more than 400p.

ping!
There's your £5.50

Just a glimmer of light for GM is all the city need.
Marc Bolland still has some fundamental issues around communication within its hierarchy and they need to trust their staff better and reward loyalty, something they seem to have stopped doing. I remain cautious but hopeful that finally M&S can put its problems behind it and step into the 21Century.

16.7 times earnings and earnings that are falling?

I'm short here. I cannot see how it deserves any more than 12 times i.e. 390p.

The MKS share price must be a bit exposed at these high levels given all the turbulence in the market. Not convinced this share price will go any higher in the short term and the risk must be to the downside. Time to take some profits!

Surprising rise in the share price bearing in mind the lowering of earnings expectations this morning by Next. I did notice that MKS achieved a 52 week high yesterday which many chart watchers regard as a bullish signal.

I don't think M/S will be buying anyone, consolidation is the name of the game that has changed with the Aldi and other discount stores.

I think Marks has a stalker building a stake.

combined market cap £15 billion at £5, or £18 billion if M&S shares went to £6, nearly as big as tescos

imo a no brainer for M&S to buy sainsburys in a shares exchange. imo 7 M&S shares for every 10 sainsburys would do it. there would be massive synergies

we have cleanly broken the magic £5 mark today. £6 next? and a bid for Sainsbury while it is down?
