02/9/2020 19:00 | UK households to take a £1,700 hit to their incomes due to the pandemic and the hit to the economy could be much worse than the current forecasts: | debsdowner
02/9/2020 17:37 | B&M to enter footsie 100 B&M valuation twice that of MARKS is a shocking downfall of MARKS in comparison. The discounters have overtaken leading retailers the last few years and I suspect they will maintain the lead for many years to come. Although MARKS are trying to grab more of the online food share market the younger generation more savvy with their money now and the discounters premium range is far cheaper than MARKS. I think in part that is why QUESTOR advised leaving MARKS on the shelf it could take years to recover momentum and in the meantime the discounters will get more competitive with their offerings. TESCO has tried to take on ALDI lately saying it will beat their prices but ALDI is fighting back with its own advertising and claims. | debsdowner
02/9/2020 16:54 | Big jump again in corona positive tests to 1,508 in last 24 hours Shockingly big jump on ventilators at 82 ! Its highest for a while now. 709 in hospital with also 109 admissions. The GOV will be getting increasingly concerned at these figures Scotland had to impose more restrictions the last few days. | debsdowner

02/9/2020 13:13 | QANTAS Deadline has passed for DEBENHAMS but suggestions are no one wants the entire estate which I mentioned earlier and only 50 shops may remain. My gut feeling is worse news to come with massive job losses at Debenhams. Keep your eye on developments as this could be positive for MARKS. | debsdowner

02/9/2020 09:11 | QANTAS Debenhams is going to be interesting. I cannot see it being bought out as a whole many shops must be losing money but if its given away then a bidder may just close many of its stores, so its possible. Philip Green and Philip Day from EDM may be bidders for some key sites but retail will get worse the next few months as unemployment rises. | debsdowner

02/9/2020 08:52 | Bidders for Debenhams were told to display their interest in rescuing the department stores chain by the end of yesterday as doubts grow about the future of the business. Advisers at Lazard, the investment bank running the sale process, told interested suitors that they needed to submit bids by 5pm yesterday. An insider said that the process was a "checkpoint" to verify there was genuine interest in rescuing the business. - The Times | qantas
02/9/2020 08:35 | Germany retail sales went negative last month at -0.8% as against a forecast of 0.5%. The Eurozone still struggling. | debsdowner
02/9/2020 08:32 | bartram Well OCADO has its own brand and MARKS only own just over half the UK business. But they have managed to get their "Percy Pig" on some or all of the UK delivery vans. Percy doesn't do anything for me but it appears to go down with the public. To be honest a lot of investors don't fully understand the joint venture with OCADO and I didn't until a few months ago. | debsdowner

01/9/2020 21:05 | Andy Rushton1 Sep 2020 8:53PM@Jason Bourne M&S saw us pretty well through the dark lockdown days - they did a good job of keeping all the basics in stock as well as the artichoke hearts and the queues weren't as bad as elsewhere. Am tending to stick with them now - particularly after they included a surprisingly yummy wine in their last meal deal. I don't need wowing, thanks. | xxxxxy

01/9/2020 20:53 | Why didn't M&S insist on having it's own name on the delivery vans. Ocado sounds like something from Gilbert & Sullivan. | bartram
01/9/2020 20:28 | Johnny I think you will find the 590% a typo error and its 59% which is the obvious figure ! Also the percentage is only for the UK. How can anyone own more than 100% of anything LOL Back to school tomorrow Johnny and maybe teacher can explain it to you !
