“China has five to six gold companies. I have been in touch with all of them, and they all have plans for increasing assets overseas,” said Peter Grosskopf, chief executive officer of Sprott Asset Management, a Toronto-based company that manages assets including physical bullion trusts. He said the Chinese companies were well-capitalised and better positioned than their North American counterparts.

Sprott had set up a partnership fund with China’s leading gold company, Zijin Mining Group, which is called the Zijin Sprott Fund, with the aim of buying overseas gold assets, Mr Grosskopf said. “The expansion (opportunities) are better globally than in China.”

The interest in goldmines comes amid a recent surge in overseas deal-making by Chinese companies.

Thanks. A valuable asset will always find a home I suppose. Doesn't have to be a "major" buyer to give us a major pay day.

I always thought that AlacerGold would be the best fit, already operates there and have a various JV`s with Lidya, most notable at their Copler mine where they are majority holder.

There was a rumor that Eldorado may bid for Alacer, who also operates in Turkey.
Sandstorm as a major shareholder may have different ideas.

Yeah, thanks Doolittle.

The assumption appears to be that Mariana will not be able to keep hold of HM and will either sell to or be bought by a larger company. In terms of the project, this is very plausible, but with only 30% the acquirer would still be the junior partner in the JV. To my mind this would make it less attractive, certainly to a mining major. Of course I'm assuming that our Turkish partner would not be so interested in doing a deal for HM.

Does anyone know of recent examples where minority JV shares have been purchased by large (or at least mid-tier) companies? Maybe my assumptions are wrong, I'd be interested to hear other people's views.

What they fail to mention in that note are the names of these companies .
Previously we were compared to RoxGold, but they are in production now with MC of $568m or £340 million.

Positive improvements in Mariana’s high-grade peer group combined with the increased mineral resource estimate announced today have lead us to increase our price target to 104p per share from 54p per share.

Thanks proton. have been following you (& chippenfrd) for years though do not post. Interesting to know of Cook's strategy in focussing on early stage/proven explorers as buy candidates by the majors a year or two down the line. I hope exit for marl will be 100+ if it happens, to compensate us long term holders keeping it for 10+ years, having burnt my fingers in caza and a few others! All the best.

Agree, but it`s that time of the year when everything seems to be in a slow motion.
Having said that, I reckon *kick-off* is not far away :-)
Was trying to get more videos or comments from Sprott`s conference.
Only one I got was Brent Cook`s interview that landed in my email.

Well, we could do with some general update from Argentina and Chile.
They drilled in Argentina last year- no results published
They (our JV PARTNER) drilled this year in Chile - no results published.
I hope for a JV in Argentina, or elusive sale....

Don't get so excited Gers! YOu'll do yourself a mischief. However - MTA just hit C$1.08 at the opening on TSX which bodes well for the day. I'll be looking to see if this causes a virtuous 'feedback loop' into Sandstorm shares today (TSX:SSL) especially when coupled with their own tasty news release last night (see above). POG Up, partly on BoE announcement, £ down. What's not to like for MARL holders?
