Now, Future Biogas has plans to build its own portfolio of 25 new biogas plants with carbon capture and storage technology (BECCS) to supply green gas to the grid. It also intends to build an additional 20 bolt-on CCS sites.
Once captured, the CO2 will be supplied to the Northern Lights Project via a new port facility to be built in the Humber Estuary. Northern Lights is a joint venture between Equinor, Shell International and Total Energies that has been established to transport and store captured CO2 permanently under the North Sea.
The firm intends to sell the carbon offsets generated by permanent geological CO2 storage to corporate buyers seeking to offset their emissions. It will also raise £35 million (€40.7 million) with admission to AIM expected in July.

Didn’t future biogas have a deal with an oil major to pump carbon back underground or was that linked with Weardale ?

This is massive news for the Biogas Industry -

Victoria Scholar, head of investment at Interactive Investor noted that with BP PLC (LSE:BP.) making a similar purchase recently, biogas and other energy transition investments are “a major growth avenue for oil and gas giants like Shell and BP particularly given the lack of long-term investment in fossil fuel projects.

Shed added: "They can also help with energy security, reducing the West’s dependence on Russia for natural gas.”

This is what Shell feeds about the Biogas industry with its acquisition of Nature EnergyFounded in 1979 as a natural gas distributor, Nature Energy established its first biogas plant in Denmark in 2015 and now has 14 operating plants with associated infrastructure and feedstock arrangements. It is set to produce around 6.5 mln MMBtu/yr of biogas this year from agricultural, industrial, and household wastes making it the largest green gas producer in Europe. Huibert Vigeveno, downstream director at Shell, said the deal would bolster the oil and gas giant's push into the fast-expanding market for low carbon fuels.
