Bill, I did get a letter from GT - because I had some shares registered in my own name. If your shares are held in nominee (as most are), it is up to your nominee/broker to pass any communications from GT along. GT would only know of the nominee, not your personal holding, unless you have shares registered in your own name. I quoted from their letter in my post 4771 above.

Maybe that's why the previous FD(s) walked, perhaps because they realised they were/would be walking a fine line!

(They may well have some interesting information relating to any investigation.)

If I were the liquidator, I would take a look at getting back some of the excessive bonuses paid to management at a time when their trading was falling off the end of a cliff.

Will mail you also --- been a bit out of action for a while.
But I hope somehow you can persue this with the FSA or similar, because have no doubt the Company was trading insolvently for previous 6-9 months.
Only when a Brazilian shoe supplier try a winding up order in order to secure some payments, did the whole sorry saga come out.
Am pleased at least to see that he did not walk off with the DKNY deal in his personal pocket ---- but.................

THE END: got a letter from Grant Thornton this morning:

"The Company is insolvent and the secured creditor, HSBC Bank plc, is facing a significant shortfall. Accordingly, I regret to inform you that there is no prospect of either a dividend being paid to the unsecured creditors or indeed a return to shareholders. In the light of this, your shares in the Company would appear to have no value."

GT also say that they will not enter into any correspondence with shareholders. I do not, however, intend to let the matter rest and will try to ensure that the actions of the directors, leading up to this, are thoroughly investigated.

Update on financial position


The Board of Marchpole wishes to announce that, following suspension on 4 November 2008 of the Company*s listing by the FSA and trading in the Company*s shares on the London Stock Exchange pending clarification of the Group*s financial position, Marchpole has been placed in administrative receivership today. Martin Ellis and Andrew Hosking, partners in Grant Thornton UK LLP have been appointed administrative receivers of Marchpole and the Board has been informed, are now seeking purchasers of the operating companies as trading businesses in cooperation with key stakeholders. A further announcement will be made in due course.

Good luck over the next few years of turmoil.

I am going to bottom fish, but I am not sure that we have reached the bottom, so I am being VERY cautious.

I have a feeling that the financial chaos maybe only the start of mankind's problems over the coming years, but lets see what happens.
