Oh you've cast my mind back. Many moons ago when I was a small child there was a TV series called Wagon Train. I used to love those old westerns.

& the coach driver is heaving back on the reins & shouting
"Woa back, woa"....

Good info.

....despite the % rise so far today it looks like, so far, that no one sells even 1 share !

Delighted to hear that Smithie6 and well done, I am sure every little step up from here onwards will make your days even brighter as MFX might go above previous highs in a matter of weeks I suspect.

..while some of us are in warmer climes & are fully invested in UK shares & doing nicely. :-)

=====

Stock markets move in cycles.
When the market is cheap, everyone is moaning & groaning. There are lots of takeovers (as happening now) because companies are cheap. Buying low is good.

When the market goes up & everyone is sitting on profits then everyone is happy & all the financial media & friends & taxi drivers say "buy now, the market is doing well" it is probably a good time to think about selling/reducing.

Clocktower, don't wait for taxi drivers to all say it is a good time to buy shares, 'cause it will be too late !!

Maybe it’s just that there are to many like myself enjoying the sun in warmer climates and not investing in UK shares at present.

...it was interesting/strange imo that the mkt ignored the CEO investing £98k in shares in Nov or Dec.....or it even helped the share price fall. Crazy !

...I picked up a few more 7-10 days ago, & previously quite a few near that low at 15-16p. :-)
(Some at 15.3p !, I guess there was a forced seller, perhaps they had a margin call on a spread bet/CFD, or they got a whisper than a mining company had found gold & they needed money to buy shares !)

....up to my % limit with MFX shares now.
CT has bigger pockets than me.

I never saw the reason for the pull back tbh
However it’s allowed me more at a cheaper price

News from this banking/lending sector

BBC article about 2 big takeovers, at a premium, in the UK banking sector

Tesco's banking section was bought last month.
And in recent days Nationwide has made an offer to buy Virgin Money, at ~40% higher share price than before the deal was announced.

Some news from this financial sector.

1) Virgin Money. VMUK
+35% today.
Received an offer from NatWest Bank.

(MFX is a takeover target imo since very cheap & has lots of real assets such as client lists, subsidiaries/associates, big client list via Payment Assist Ltd (a takeover target for Klarna & others).
And the banking licences in the IoM & the UK have value.

2) Funding Circle Holdings FCH
Lending to SMEs, much bigger than MFX.
+35%
Results today have gone down well & announced a share buyback & that plan to sell USA division (there is interest to buy it) & that division is loss making so selling it should produce cash & an improvement in plc profit.

The world is sitting on a precarious knife edge, and bar gold and whisky what is a safe haven? For me right now whisky is favourite, as at worst you can drown your sorrows. 😂

...not that anyone believes what Hedgehog posts

But let me point out that

- UK banks (& USA banks, & Spanish banks (including BBVA, Santander)...&...!) have reported good results, most with profits up from last year

- share prices for UK banks have been rising in the last few months.
NatWest is up from 180p to 240p for example, an increase of 33% in a few months. (I bought some at 183p).

- UK bank shares are at a low p/e, that is a good part of the reason for them rising in price. Still cheap. (The mkt also sees a reduced risk of an increase in bad debts). I'm hoping that the MFX share price will 'join the party'.

I'm not surprised to see the share price collapse here this week: Smithie6's trolling on a NWT thread may be putting people off Manx.

And the banking sector isn't a growth sector: rather, it's mature, ex-growth, competitive, commoditised, & in decline.

Furthermore, numerous banks have gone bust recently, which shows the risks, while there looks to be comparatively little in the way of rewards to justify taking them.

Additional income due to the increase in the % interest paid on money deposited in UK treasuries/gilts.

If assume £40m (ref. 2022 accounts) & an increase from 1% average over 2022 & say 4.5% average over 2023 then the resulting increase in income due to that increase of 3.5% is
= 40m X 0.035
= £1.4m

Which in theory should help to increase the annual PAT. Although it didn't help in H1 where the PAT fell wrt the previous year. Hopefully that was a temporary set back due to increased costs due to process of applying for UK banking licence and/or for additional costs such as for staff & set up costs etc for having a UK banking licence, without the UK banking function having any notable turnover during its start up phase.
