02/3/2019 16:45 | prefer real corks and glass bottles no plastic, screw tops or wine boxes for me | maywillow
27/2/2019 08:58 | sg31 27 Feb '19 - 08:52 - 2782 of 2782 0 0 0 Plastic is now a threat to the environment. The bottles stop the ingress of oxygen for one year. Not much good for good wine that stays in the bottle for longer than that. You turn up with a bottle in plastic and everyone will know it's plonk. I can't see it catching on. 04/2/2019 09:18 | GH it would certainly be the way I would think, but it represents a personal risk for the Chief Exec, and a Corporate risk for the company. Not an easy change. TD | the diddymen
01/2/2019 16:34 | I think there are some synergies already-Naked use majestic for customer collections and as a distr network to fulfil/deliver on line orders I'm sure there could be more. I guess the plan is to migrate shop customers to their on line offers, keep the turnover and reduce the high st representation points. Unlike some on wine "experts" on here, I think Naked do a good job and the wines they sell are good value. Full year results are going to be interesting and guess we will find out if the correction to current levels is fair value. good luck. | gutterhead
01/2/2019 15:07 | Gh - yep, the value of the business is in Naked Wines. Their job now is to keep cheap imitations out! I suppose at some stage there could be synergy between the two businesses - but Majestic will have to survive a pretty cut throat world. TD | the diddymen
01/2/2019 13:35 | that's why they have Naked wines and another as their on line offering yaarfc | gutterhead
01/2/2019 13:01 | Not enough space for Oddbins and Majestic on the High St! Not a nice place to be. TD | the diddymen
09/1/2019 08:38 | Sounds like Naked Wines has been able to exploit less price sensitive customers overseas but British consumers generally realise when they are being over-charged. | shanklin
09/1/2019 08:30 | A tale of two businesses. Hardly a scientific assessment but two yardsticks for the stores: Firstly consumers seem to have focussed more on food and drink over Christmas; and secondly, drilling into the detail of wine, my local wine merchant had their best Christmas by a long long way this year. Majestic +1.5% (inflation adjusted?). In essence it has stood still on turnover, however judging by my test purchase margins may have improved (because the quality was poor for the price paid). The retail side is going to be very challenging going forward and the company should be moving to short leases only. Naked Wines looks good, but I do not know enough to value it (and could that value be wiped by the potential liabilities of Majestic Wines). On balance the shorts seem to have got it right. 08/1/2019 14:48 | Over the12 weeks up to Christmas an extra £450m was spent in the big super markets. Bodes well for majestic sales | vikingwarrier

02/1/2019 12:12 | To my mind the value of Majestic is in Naked Wines but I do not know what that value is yet. In terms of their High St their very good presentation just does not make up for the over pricing of the product, and ultimately the consumer will vote with their feet. The proof will be in the eating (not drinking!) and the next evidence will be the Christmas trading statement. I have not read the Telegraph tip - providing the journalist understands Naked, then the punt could be well founded. TD | the diddymen
02/1/2019 12:00 | The one thing I appreciate about Majestic is that they always have at least 8-10 wines open for tasting. Taste is so subjective that I find wine writers recommendations next to useless (well Matthew Jukes for sure). | goodgrief
31/12/2018 08:15 | Tipped in Telegraph in case anyone was wondering:- | cwa1
29/12/2018 17:43 | Purchased a couple of bottles at Majestic. Yet again over priced. Majestic are not daft and I suspect that they have worked out that this is the only pricing model that could work. In my opinion could is not a strategy. While a far from perfect yardstick the local independent has had their best year ever by a long way. It will be interesting to see if Majestic can achieve a significant increase in sales when they issue their post Christmas update. TD | the diddymen
14/12/2018 17:07 | It would help if the general outlook was a little less turbulent. I am not sure if the falling knife has been caught. | the diddymen |
