M&G's holding of 16,457,358 shares in AngloGold Ashanti PLC positions them to benefit significantly from the takeover of Centamin PLC. Here are a few ways they might benefit The takeover offer often includes a premium over the current share price of the target company. If the market views the acquisition favorably, AngloGold Ashanti's share price could increase, boosting the value of M&G's holdingsThe acquisition could create synergies that enhance AngloGold Ashanti's operational efficiency and profitability. This can lead to improved financial performance and higher dividends, benefiting shareholders like M&GMarket Position: Successfully acquiring Centamin could strengthen AngloGold Ashanti's market position, making it a more dominant player in the gold mining industry. This enhanced market position can lead to long-term growth and stability.

Had a bit of a quandary yesterday

Had the option to buy this MNG near the low of the year or

to buy or PRU near the low of the year so far

To my mind they are both products of same alma mater but as I had made the call for Pru @600 had to go with that but if MNG had gone to 188 would have been the one.

Flip of a coin but ultimately went with my first call.

As said here and elsewhere Aviva's update today is eagerly awaited, Hope we are not disappointed. And more importantly that I made the right choice.

Good luck everyone today Fingers crossed

I have the mighty holding of 2k MNG down from about 15k two years ago

WTEF WISDOMTREE US EFFICIENT CORE UCITS ETF has done +30% in the last 12 months.
EWSP - SAP500 equal weight c 25% so not all about Nvidia
FTWG - all world Tacker c 25%
JGGI - JPM Global Growth and Income +26%

Aviva has done really well beating the index 20.7 v 13.4
PHNX 17.5% v 13.4
LGEN +7.6 v 13.4
MNG +4.8 v 13.4

Why are we bothering with UK single stocks?

Ron

I have discounted the budget that everyone is getting in such a tizz about.

It will happen and it won't be pretty but until that day in the Commons none of us have any idea.

I have no idea where the share prices will go

My preferred move here at MNG is to still buy at 180 as still a fair few months until the final dividend.

With Phnx I had sold at 572 and at 580 it looked like it was going to and through 600

Just shows how scared the markets are and I believe this will be the case until after the Presidential Elections.

For that reason I will drop anchor and enjoy the calm before the storms gather force.

Just fishing around from mow until November

Watching charts and share price vs yield and other fundamentals can absolutely help in trading. As an example I was extremely wise/fortunate to pile into SQZ at 112 last week locking in massive yield (if it holds). I'm not afraid to exit a losing trade with a small loss. Ride the winners and cut the losers as the adage goes.

M&G's capital generation, solvency the positives as outflow recorded - analyst
04 Sep 2024

M&G PLC (LSE:MNG)’s higher-than-expected operating capital generation and improving solvency ratio marked the positives of the fund manager’s interim results, according to analysts.

At £486 million and 210% respectively, the figures were above consensus expectations, UBS analysts said in a note, leaving M&G in line to hit strengthened targets.

M&G had reported a £1.5 billion net outflow for the six months to June on Wednesday morning, against an inflow of £0.7 billion a year earlier.

UBS analysts noted the results were largely better than expected though, with management cost-saving efforts prompting better capital generation and in turn fueling M&G’s solvency ratio.

M&G signalled aims to hit £220 million worth of cost savings by 2025 in Wednesday’s results, against £200 million previously.

A new £2.7 billion operating cash generation target, compared to £2.5 billion beforehand, then brought the group’s own aims in line with market expectations, UBS added.

UBS reiterated a ‘neutral’; rating for M&G following the results, alongside a 218p share price target.

Shares fell 1% to 213.90p on Wednesday.

Great to see what happens on a markets down day , when they announce debt and therefore interest cost reduction.
Shame the bulk was a lower rate but its all good.

Debt going down , share price going up - quite often the opposite to borrowing money to buy back shares - debt up , share price down.

I still dip in from time to time but its not for me discussions of investing for the divi around ex d and share price comments which seem to become endless. I thought results overall were solid and the share price has been disappointing albeit along with others post exdivi. cap gen is v decent from WP; average from AM and good from anns so I dont doubt any cap gen targets they throw out. liquidity was maybe an issue with debt repmts but the prufund swap is a way out of this + they have decent headroom on S2. Given their low nb volumes its not obvious why they are running at > 200% S2 margin.

So overall divi looks solid but the share price prospects, and I guess the analysts views, will hinge mainly on sorting out MNG AM which apparently they are experts at!

Ron - I was not trying to "mark your homework" merely an impartial observation that any naysayers could not disagree with.

The share price fall yesterday was a really profitable point to buy back (as I said at the start I had the benefit of hindsight before reading the method)

So I guess what I am trying to work out - was there a predictable reason after the xd of the final div for the share price to continue to fall ?

You may have referred to a post xd vacuum - no dividend to wait for , no news , pre new tax year so no catalyst to move the share price higher?

Whereas there are always reasons for some to sell.

Are there more shares out there , paying a large dividend with a gap before next report / xd allowing reinvestment of the engineered early dividend enabling a compounding across the year ?

tyroneshares.

Here’s the direct answer to your question.

1. The dividend amount is taken out of the share price first thing on ex dividend day. So if the dividend is 13.8p the share price will be marked down by that amount.

2. What happens after that on ex dividend day and days after that depends on the usual things like investors buying or selling.

3. So after that initial share price mark down on ex dividend day the share price could continue to fall if there’s more selling than buying, or rise straight away and sometimes make up and more, all the initial ex dividend mark down.

4. There is NO additional mark down 2 days later.
