Indigenisation regulations still in force

Written by The Zimbabwean
Monday, 19 April 2010 07:13

HARARE - The Indigenisation regulations have not been suspended and are still in force in the form in which they were gazetted on January 29.

Bill Watch said the regulations can only be suspended or amended or repealed by the responsible Minister and only the courts could declare them null and void.

“ A Cabinet decision that the regulations are null and void/suspended/will not be implemented has no direct, immediate legal effect – and the same applies to an announcement of a Cabinet decision, whether made by the Prime Minister’s spokesman or by the Prime Minister himself,” said Bill Watch.

“Until the responsible Minister gives effect to the Cabinet decision by gazetting a statutory instrument, the regulations continue in force in their original form, and businesses must conduct themselves accordingly.

LOL - serves them right, after all what do they expect.

That should concentrate minds beautifully, and it only covers the legal costs.

White farmers seize Zimbabwe government property in S.Africa

JOHANNESBURG (AFP) - White farmers whose land was seized under Zimbabwe
President Robert Mugabe's land reforms have claimed a house owned by his
government in South Africa, their lawyer said Tuesday.

The 2.5-million-rand (338,000-dollar, 250,000-euro) house in the Cape Town
suburb of Kenilworth was attached by the sheriff's office, meaning it could
now be auctioned off by the farmers.

Their lawyer Willie Spies said the seizure was not meant to compensate the
farmers for their land, but to cover their legal costs.

That is the first sensable thing kvrr as ever writen re LZM / Zimbabwe. The only way to make the Zanu-pf realise that without investment they will have no cream to take off the top. I hope Barclays, BAT and Nestles tell Mugabe they are leaving Zimbabwe and they can stick it, lets see what they would do on that news.

As a beside im happen to be reading "The last king of Scotland" by Giles Foden. Talk about history repeating itself !.

Zimbabwe's new indigenization law has horrendous implications on economic growth, employment creation, government revenues, among other issues. Zimbabwe lost more than US$3billion in potential investments over the past three weeks when it became clear that Zanu-PF would impose its will once more on its IG partners. A lot of money is leaving the country.
