I follow ElvisRocks but my calculations show a price of 14500zar will be neutral this year, excluding the waste dump project. There is definitely some way to go on the metal price front, though Palladium is doing its bit.

Harry David, in response to your question, Page 35 of the published accounts show Lonmin's profits benefitted by a 23% weakening of the Rand last year to the amount of $256m and at September 30, 2016 the exchange rate was ZAR13.77/$. This is what my problem is - anything south of 13.77 is more FX profits, anything north is FX losses, and from what I can see, the XR over the last three months has been around the 13.77 level, i.e. FX neutral.
-----
My Point? Lonmin only reported overall profits of $7m with this fat FX $256m profit in it, and it is not likely to recur again so big losses loom. To get the $256m windfall again, is the same as the Pt price hitting $1,500 (every year). In other words, it is an over valued share.

What a pity there isn't a moderator on this board. Makes very unpleasant reading. Why can't you just express your opinions, try to substantiate them and otherwise agree to disagree, without all the foul-mouthed unpleasantness.

ElvisRocks, I do not follow your calculations though as a good accountant I have no doubt as to the historical accuracy of your numbers. The share price of a mining company is only loosely connected to the immediate profit. Lonmin is now looking at all its roses coming into bloom. Plat could easily move from last week's price of 12,500, today 13,000 and up to 14,000 within a very short timescale and then everyone would start pricing in 15,000. Do not forget palladium, now at a very attractive price and likely moving higher as well. These price projections have some fundamentals in their favour, European car sales are rocking, metal traders are fairly short and most important, consumers are running low stock levels.

I am going to pile in here with another salutory lesson, why this will fairly quickly correct to the downside on the basis of fundamentals. If the Pt price was to magically jump $600 to the $1,500 mark, then $600 * 600,000 oz production *75% (only that amount of production is Pt) this would produce an extra $270m profit. Enough to get a dividend even. Party time and whoopy do. But guess what, last year Fx gains were of a similar $270m quantum that boosted 2016 profits, and there are no current signs the Rand is weakening against the dollar and we may even get Fx losses this year.
------
Thus even if the Pt jumps suddenly by $600 / oz, it will make hardly any difference to the losses and valuation of the company. My Point? Lonmin is currently over valued at £1.60

Wondered if anyone on here kept a record of the number of shares in issue dating back to the days before the great (or not so great as it was) crash? There are now 282.44m stocks in issue - wanted to understand how many were in issue before the price collapsed and the various rights issues. Trying to get a handle on what the current price on LMI is in old money (if you catch my drift).

Thanks.

Bloody dangerous to be short now, both metals are boiling. A price move now could easily be $60 or $70 in a day for plat, all the industrial buyers are running very low stock holdings.
