07/12/2016 13:48 | And people wonder why it's going down, they are in a bad position and I personally can see sub 100 p coming | pjm1162
07/12/2016 12:25 | Rand has strengthened recently. Right now basket price for Lonmin is 11753 per ounce of PGM. For 2017 cost of production 11050 + capex 1500 = 12650 rand. So If the prices of pgm remain depressed in 2017 Lonmin will be losing around 900 rand for each ounce. (Lonmin plans to increase capex in 2017 from 1.2 bln rand in 2016 to 1,8bln rand) | mikemaxm
07/12/2016 09:17 | Short lived bounce to 146 as expected, 138 again now, 120 within a week I suspect....shorters heaven this is atm | pjm1162

30/11/2016 18:08 | Yes, I would agree - they made $109m EBITDA Profit this year (up from $21m), $7m Operating Profit (up from $134m Operating Loss last year) but they still had another $329m Special Costs to take off this year, so Yes, I would agree now they must be making a loss and don't have the weak XR to fall back on. | elvisrocks
30/11/2016 17:17 | Yes, it depends on how much capex they will spend next year. But since all this year price of Pt was higher in Rand and they only made 7 mln its safe to assume that they are losing money at current price. | mikemaxm
30/11/2016 14:35 | Ok thanks, so at "your 12,091 Price" - "Ben's 11,950 Costs", Lonmin at pretty much at "break even" at the operating "EBITDA" level but that depends how much Capx they are incorporating into their units costs, costs could go higher to 11,300 and before all other costs like depreciation etc are taken off which are about $100m per annum? | elvisrocks
30/11/2016 14:28 | Dont forget that when Ben talks about costs of production per oz he talks about cost including Palladium and Rhodium which are cheaper than platinum. Lonmin sell PGM mix right now at about 12091 rand. | mikemaxm
30/11/2016 14:17 | I think this is correct here what mikemaxm is saying and also how things have moved on from last year - if the current Pt price in Rands in 12,815, last year Ben was saying costs would be 10,400 (now 10,800 could go to 11,300) plus an allowance of 900 for Capx. So taking the midpoint of 10,800-11,300 (11,050) + 900 for Capx makes an "profit" of 12,815-11,950 or about R1,000 "profit" per oz BUT with Capx starved and also subject to a straonger Rand v USD. Not good news all round, thus can see why everyone is selling. | elvisrocks
30/11/2016 14:07 | """10% lower than a week ago when platinum was even lower than today's price I meant, so it's not all down to platinum""" Yes its down to people, smarter people sold last week, less bright are selling now. | mikemaxm
30/11/2016 14:05 | When in January of 2016 the price of Pt was 820$ the exhange rate was 1:16,8 so in rand it was 13 776. Since then wage increased 7,5% and tariffs for electricity went up but the price of Pt in Rand went down 7% from the start of the year to 12815. No wonder the people are selling shares. The company is lossmaking at current price of Pt. | mikemaxm
30/11/2016 13:55 | The price of PT in Rand a week ago went under 13000 the lowest point since jan 2016. Right now it is 12815 with no good news for Pt in foreseeable future. So when the price went under 13000 a week ago the selling of shares started. | mikemaxm
30/11/2016 13:46 | 10% lower than a week ago when platinum was even lower than today's price I meant, so it's not all down to platinum | pjm1162 |
