Alliance News) - Lloyds Banking Group PLC said Friday it will repurchase up to USD1.82 billion in bonds due from 2021 to 2029.

The FTSE 100-listed lender will be buying back from 17 bonds through its subsidiary Lloyds Bank PLC, eight of which are euro-denominated, two denominated in US dollars and the rest in pound sterling.

Lloyds Bank Corporate Markets PLC and UBS AG London Branch are acting as joint dealer managers, while Lucid Issuer Services Ltd is acting as tender agent.

Nothing more at this point.

There was a snippet posted that Lloyds is in the market buying bonds for cancellation.
Will post a link if I find anything definite.

Lloyds below 30 pence a share again. Strange days indeed.

There is a large exchange of information on one of the other Lloyds Pref threads:

"the board has decided that until the end of 2020 we will undertake no quarterly or interim dividend payments, accrual of dividends, or share buybacks on ordinary shares. In addition, in response to a request from the PRA and to preserve additional capital for use in serving our clients, the board has agreed to cancel payment of the final 2019 dividend in relation to ordinary shares. "

Do we assume/infer that the dividend is maintained for preference shares?

Just a feeling that many dividends will be shelved for say 12mths. I am a LLPE fan, still hold some and hope to add again later this year.
I am concerned about the aftermath of the virus and Brexit that everyone has forgotten about.

Interested in why you think this.
Yes ordinary dividends are very much on the line, but not these I would have thought.
If I had not been so foolish to buy LLPE earlier in the year, I would be adding.

I have convinced myself that dividends may be put on hold so sold some. Managed to get them away at 94.

Interesting that my quote from 2016 has been resurrected. Thanks.
They are preference dividends for a reason. i.e they rank before ordinary dividends. Unless they pay the prefeerence dividends first, theycannot pay an ordinary dividend.

There has been disruption to the payment of dividends by many of the companies that were due to pay out in the next few weeks ahead.
That is understandable. The companies cannot forecast disruption, shutdowns, losses, bad debts, disrupted cashflows etc. They may have to continue to pay wages to employees with a very reduced income stream.
It will not go on forever, and I am sure that these businessses will want to return to paying ordinary dividends as soon as posssible.

I have not seen any notice that Lloyds is passing or suspend its dividend.
Should it renage on the Xd of 16 April, I would hope that the August payment would be made.
On that basis I would expect that the next LLPE payment, due in September, would be made.

I am holding until redemption, which I expect to take place in 2024. Thankfully I bought well below par.
Lloyds has too many problems to tackle at present. Going to Court to cancal Preference shares will be low priority,

Just MHO

Still toying whether to sell the LLPEs. Depends IMO on the length of the downturn following the virus. Next dividend date early August 2020.
Holding for now.

...Might depend on whether you think dividends would be restored before 2024.

Also, I assume Lloyds would be motivated to pay a div on the ordinaries. The last time the dividend was suspended on the pref it was a requirement of the bailout. Mind you, if they get into deep trouble this time, we'd lose the prefs!
