21/11/2017 17:01 | VS delay is due to tech issues. Thats why they are saying it won't be live till 2018. Here's NHS Supply Chain (who partner DHL) explaining how they are enacting the Carter Report now. hxxps://www.supplych NHS Supply Chain The NHS has a challenge to deliver £22 billion in savings by the end of the financial year 2020/2021 including £700m from improving procurement. NHS Supply Chain is uniquely positioned as the national provider to work alongside trusts to respond to this challenge and support its achievement. We are working closely with the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) to deliver the £300m of procurement efficiencies that were highlighted in Lord Carter’s interim report: Review of operational efficiency in NHS providers. We are also working to meet recommendations to increase price transparency to lower costs and to reduce the number of products and suppliers used across the NHS to deliver economies of scale. So far we have reduced our catalogue from 600,000 product lines to 315,000 to help NHS organisations purchase products more efficiently. We currently manage more than four million orders per year from over 120,000 order points at 10,000 different locations. We are able to consolidate orders from over 600 suppliers, removing the need for multiple deliveries each day, saving trusts time and money and removing any duplication from overlapping contracts. As well as expertise in procurement and supply chain, we offer trusts a named customer service advisor, clinical nurse advisors and a full account management service. We aim to work collaboratively with trusts at this challenging time. | soupdragon55
21/11/2017 17:00 | Cheers Soup - just thought I'd stir the pot a bit. I cannot see any reason for delay, but all will be revealed in due course I suppose. | ![]() professor pettigrew
21/11/2017 16:51 | PP, Lord Carter cannot recommend any product so he will not say, hence he has never mentioned VS by name, his report only speaks about an 'Amazon style platform' which people have guessed at being VS, also the NHS Trusts act autonomously, some will take it up, others won't. There is no central NHS body for procurement, Carter's jurisdiction was to report on procurement, not guide through change, there are in fact competing elements that are putting forward rival platforms to VS. DHL are part of a group proposing a similar offering to VS. VS are partnered with NHS SBS who are in discussions with the NHS Trust for roll out. See the NHS SBS website, it answers your query. | soupdragon55
21/11/2017 16:32 | I've e-mailed Lord Carter to ascertain whether the roll-out to the rest of the NHS is going ahead, and asked him if he had any sort of timetable? | ![]() professor pettigrew
21/11/2017 14:45 | Phil - it's rather outrageous. Many years ago I took a temporary post at Dulwich Hospital (now closed I believe), and the finances there were in tatters. Soup - if there are no restrictions on GP prescribing, then there jolly well ought to be. I think Lord Carter needs an e-mail or three from us as well. His recommendation is being largely ignored. A bit or stirring it up won't go amiss. | ![]() professor pettigrew
21/11/2017 13:57 | Phil, typically its management being risk averse. I know a couple of GP's who run their own practice and they have always prescribed generics. There is no restrictions on what they can and cannot buy. | soupdragon55
21/11/2017 13:46 | Prof - the "overpricing" of drugs bought by the NHS is truly scandalous, there are multiple examples. I tried flagging up the outrageous costs of what are called "specials" some years ago - nobody in "management"/PCT/CCG | philmiboots
21/11/2017 13:29 | Only 3000000 and its over the ask | gottopickapocketortwo
21/11/2017 13:27 | You can sell 7000000 at full bid 0.131p | gottopickapocketortwo
21/11/2017 13:21 | Another example of the NHS wasting money unnecessarily. I suggest people here get on the BBC website, sign in and make comments about "The Edge". Every little helps. | ![]() professor pettigrew

21/11/2017 11:03 | Morning belt, morning nocky44. Very quiet here, calm before the storm maybe? Just a week and a day to the results next Wednesday, in all honesty would be good to win a gong, but it won't make a massive difference, as the networking opportunities are there in any case. But, a win will put VS more on the map. Still see an RNS this week. | ![]() professor pettigrew
21/11/2017 10:51 | morning all, one eye on my monitor , one eye on paint drying :-) | ![]() nocky44 |
