Worries inflation increasing in UK/USA.... Interest rates not falling ... Gilts staying high or even higher than today......Uk government incapable to control costs vs debt vs growth ....not a great mix for asset & pension managers at all !

Aviva trading update next week on 14th, maybe this gives us some insight into this year and outlook.......We have been here so many times since 2019 its quite unbelievable. But I do agree our new CEO is not making any positive impact (yet !!).. Unlike Aviva case

The market is basically pointing to the fact there is very little news supporting the ftse and what there is isn’t good.

From my experience insurance companies and banks are always under investigation for something.Likewise the UK stocks market is always underperforming

The LGen share price seems to be going nowhere yet now yielding 9.35%. Seems an opportunity for option writing; yet no posts on the subject.
- write puts at a lower share price (strike) say 200p and bank the premium. The risk is no different to buying the shares but without the capital outlay.
- or, buy the shares and write call options to boost the yield. Bank the dividend plus the premium.

Seems a plain vanilla thread, what about these opportunities?

Net, If I'm honest I can't remember where I saw it, I've been to Scotland the last few days and it's gone, i'll have a look, anyone else know where this article is, it's about ins co's and loading up car ins costs etc

p0pper: Thanks. I didn't know the fall is related to investigation into insurance companies.
Is there an article you can point me to that goes into a bit of detail on this topic?
Thanks

Yes I get all that having been an investor for about 30 years now but this moment in time is pants, and with the new investigation into insurance companies who knows how low these can go, well done Rachel Reeves and the budget, not.

P0pper: But by the laws of maths, if it can keep generating 9-10% income a year it cant fall below a certain point - I mean if I could buy the company for 10p that makes millions of course I would. It can only fall so far...
😀
But as long as it keeps paying the 9-10% I'm sure holders can hold out until it invariably bounces back again.

Net, no point though in losing 10% a year in capital just to get same (ish) back in divi's. This seems to be losing hand over fist at the moment, quite sad for such a UK institution like this, if a massive company who specialises in investing is losing like this, what chance have the rest of us mere mortals got.

I think all we really care about when it comes to LGEN is will the business model keep supporting a 7-10% dividend.... All else is probably noise as most of us are retired and looking for INCOME not GROWTH (although, of course, we never say no to growth)....

Morning Keyno

Thanks for the post-nobody will be shocked to hear that I agree with nearly all you say ;-)

I must confess that recently I've been wondering if it's worth the hassle of moderating this thread given some people are clearly intent on wrecking it at every possible opportunity and spoiling it for the majority of folk that want to use it for its intended purpose.

FWIW, I've resolved to let it flow a bit more when there's no LGEN news as long as it's not ridiculously off-topic or offensive to other posters or people. The trouble with that is someone always wants to take advantage and take it too far...

I would stress that I'm completely(indeed would encourage it) happy with folk posting negative stuff about LGEN as long as it is politely and coherently presented.

Anyway, let's see how it goes for a while and if it doesn't improve I'll just abandon it which, as you say, unfortunately means it will be trashed in the same way as many other decent threads.

Cheers

I have to remind myself (in times like these ) why I am invested in LGEN since 8 years and is the return on my capital employed @ 9,7%. So far I have 42% returned on that capital. For sure there are smarter people than me to gain much more returns, but I do not have the time or luck to play the market. As long as LGEN maintain their current dividend and even with later 2% YoY gains, I will maintain my full position. Clear if the roof caves in and divi is cut, my losses will be visible. Thats the risk I am prepared to take. I wish they would make more trading updates, but for now no news is fcst until FY results on 12th march 25.. GLA

I think LGEN will continue to sell nsurance and financial products. Nothing has changed, in fact the US is about to open for business again. The bright LGEN employees are probably identifying niche areas of growth now, so they can invest for you.The Donald runs his country like a household budget, it's not overly complicated. He doesn't care about his neighbours he looks after him and his family. The Dems were trying to bankrupt the US and give money they didn't have to people that didn't deserve it (very very familiar??).Look at the opportunities, not the endless flaws.
