...Capital will double in 7 years if you reinvest the dividend

That's true only if the capital is fixed at the outset like, say, a bank deposit and also if the return is fixed too. But shares and their divis fluctuate so that if for example the share price declined significantly over that period and/or divis were cut, it certainly would not double. Similarly it could go the other way and more than double if the share price increased and/or divis were maintained or raised.

But whatever, the "double in 7 years" is just not applicable to a fluctuating capital and income investment. It may happen but it lacks the certainty implied in your comment.

I agree, just keep a low average holding price / top up at sub 225 if you can and let the divi take care of the rest.

Good luck all 👍🏻

BS: That is nonsense. The Draper magazine said clothes retailers are expecting a good christmas since the Starmers got all those clothes.

Certainly not asking you or anyone else to sell the market will decide.

"this might not be the same dividend cash cow it’s been."

Thanks Trev, you're not convincing me to sell LOL. More likely to add a lot.

To be honest it doesn’t look to good here L&G did very well in that low interest environment but now it’s a different story despite how it’s dressed up with future profits! When interest rates finally find there level between 3-4% I suspect it will still be hurting the bottom line and the impact of ifrs17 strongly felt. At some point markets will correct and asset bubbles explode then this might not be the same dividend cash cow it’s been.

TBH, it's a long time since I took the output of the once admired TMF TOO seriously, so I'm more than happy if anyone wants to, politely, critique, them. However, it was a big enough piece on the company that we're following here to mean that I think it's worth posting and letting everyone make up their own minds about!

I never take Fool articles very seriously but especially now I see that they only have one female on the "UK Team" of over 30 Full-Time Fools and Freelancers!

Scuse, CWA1 but worthy of comment I hope you agree.

The article says: For the year ending 31 December 2024 (FY24), it's intending to pay 21.36p a share.21.36p on the current share price gives 9.28% by my calculations. However, the final divi will likely be paid in June so that could earn some interest while we wait for the interim divi next September. The figure of 9.3% yield is fair IMO.

Just being mischievous really.

Correct. A 2% increase in the dividend next 12 months is 21.04p giving a 9.15% yield @ 230p.So not to far out ! Maybe LGEN share price was 226p, when the article was written !

It’s entertaining that Labour storm troopers are over there trying to influence their election!
If T rump wins I suspect 10x the Labour budget there to be pitted against them here. Foolish move.

The real USA is a very different place if you've been there and spent time with the locals. Troubling that neither presidential candidate is remotely competent. Nor is willing to address the issues that really matter.

Not long to find out personally I prefer being out of markets and take a wait and see approach for a short period maybe. Regardless of how you interpret markets they are at or close to highs.

“All time high” is very misleading. Just look at a long term chart to see how dire the performance of the FTSE has been. The Dow was in the same range for 3 years after covid and has recently broken upwards.

So what’s the mood like ?

Miserable as hell in the UK.

Eternally positive in the US as normal, but with worries that the market might be over optimistic about Fed rate cuts. Plus general worries about their own state of democracy, war etc.

World in more turmoil than for quite a while.

So, what wins out ? I’d certainly prefer buying in the presence of gloom than when its all rosy.
