19/5/2024 12:07 | Its all relative. My real point was that if things aren't going so well then general moaning about your misfortune is not going to help. Investing is gambling, it needs good judgement but you also need a lot of luck. And be patient. With LGEN especially which is a get rich slowly stock. | marktime1231
18/5/2024 09:35 | I posted this on the Phoenix thread but you might be interested. Its the DIVIDEND YIELD of a large selection of finance companies: Another interesting statistic is Assets - Liabilities / Market Cap (lets call this X) I've put this figures at the end of the list (The higher then number the "better" it is) PHNX yield is 10.02% X= 0.57 LGEN is 8.1% X=0.32 HSBC is 7% X=1.41 <=========WOW ABDN is 9.57% X=1.77 <=======WOW AV. 6.77% X=0.69 MNG 9.54% X= 0.56 CSN 9.21% (CHESNARA) X=0.89 ELLA 6.53% (ECCLESIASTICAL) X=3.13 <=======WOW HSD 9.35% (HANSARD) X=0.31 PGH 5.76% (PERSONAL GRP) X=0.57 SBRE 3.29% (SABRE Insurance) X=0.60 LRE 2.55% (LANCASHIRE) X=0.99 <========Nearly wow JUST 2.02% (JUST GROUP) X=2.04 <=========WOW AJB 2.97% (AJ BELL) X=0.11 ADM 2.72% (ADMIRAL) X=0.12 DLG 2.03% (DIRECT LINE) X=0.85 HSX 2.58% (HISCOX) X=0.81 PRU 2.08% (PRUDENTIAL) X=0.75 STJ 4.8% (ST JAMES PLACE) X=0.37 IG Group Holdings ticker IGG (its been having a good run) Yield 5.73 PE: 10.74 X=0.68 Its difficult to find overseas competitors but I guess these two are: Perpetual Equity Investment Company Ltd Australia ASX:PIC Yield: 6.67% PE: 25.83 The BlackRock in NewYork NYSE:BLK Yield 2.51% PE: 20.63 | netcurtains
18/5/2024 08:27 | spud: I can see a time, like shops, that the UK stock market will be open 7 days a week.. It needs to drum up business from international traders who can't trade in the USA on Sunday. | netcurtains

18/5/2024 07:42 | PRVATE INVESTOR find if I hold onto shares for MONTHS (not days, years, or weeks) I normally win. I do lose a bit on when I buy and sell as I never get the top or bottom (not even close) but I do get the general drift OK. After a few months, normally it pays off for me provided I sell and dont get too greedy. I feel there is more in LGEN but you will have to hold for months to be more certain of getting it.... Of course it could happen tomorrow, or next week or next year or never .but months is often a reasonable timeframe to get the fish on the hook.... | netcurtains
18/5/2024 07:36 | "To win someone else has to lose" Not necessarily. If the average valuations increase over time plus folk receiving dividends then wealth continually increases so there'll be more winners than losers. spud | jonnybig

17/5/2024 14:07 | Given stamp duty, dealing fees etc etc there are far more losses than gains over the entire market. | mcunliffe1
17/5/2024 13:33 | Well now I feel terrible because I bought in at a better time and price, traded the cycles to bank gains, traded to get my average holding price down, and have been here long enough for the accumulated dividends to repay me handsomely. Actually I don't. To win someone else has to lose. | marktime1231
17/5/2024 13:08 | I have often bemoaned that LGEN has been a no-growth share for me having invested £18.5k on first November 2021 for the dividend. I have re-invested that dividend in new shares each time I had the opportunity and only yesterday at close of play I was in profit for the first time ever to the tune of £55 taking into consideration the latest divi. But that was then, this is now. | fionascott1234

15/5/2024 12:20 | That looks like three discrete steps up in the share price so far today, which is unusually strong volatile movement even for LGEN. All speculation on where US CPI is about to print, or? Could all fade away again of course, how many times have we seen that happen. | marktime1231

15/5/2024 11:11 | At its current price its paying 7%, which should be of interest to dividend seekers. I also pointed out that after its recent rise it could well be due a pull back, providing a buying opportunity. Of course, if it could be bought at the price I paid, giving me a 100% capital gain plus a 14% income return on capital invested, that would be wonderful, but we can't turn the clock back. Anyhow, it provides a bit of diversification from Aviva, Chesnara, L&G and the like. I am also looking closely at a few property companies whose SP's have dropped with their asset valuations because of the rise in interest rates, but whose dividends have held. The key there is balance sheet strength and the length of their loan agreements. If they may become forced sellers, or will have to refinance their debt at high rates of interest, then they are 'cheap for a reason', and to be avoided. | 1knocker
15/5/2024 09:56 | 1knocker: "If is up over 100%" - you lost your audience right there... 😀 No one wants to hear about the ones that have already gone up 100% - they want the the 100%. | netcurtains
15/5/2024 09:54 | If you want a good dividend share, take a look at Smiths News. It is up over 100% from my average purchase price, but even after that price rise the dividend is substantial. On my capital invested, my percentage income return is phenomenal. i think it has further to go, but it has risen steeply recently, so there is a chance of a bit of a pull back before it continues up. Nothing moves in a straight line. | 1knocker
15/5/2024 09:14 | For those who can swallow their pride and accept buybacks drive the price higher than it would otherwise be, there's easy money going in VOD, who have just announced a massive buyback over the next year. Plus alreadys a massive divi which will likely increase (after adjustment to allow for the business they've just sold for billions). Or you can just keep guessing the price, and gradually lose the lot. The odds in vod are now very firmly in the pis' favour, but no gtees of course. | pierre oreilly
