15/5/2022 15:40 | adejuk, so true. I traded my way over the past twenty years or so and lived to tell the tale which I guess is something. However the approach I take now seems much easier and also likely to cause less long term stress and give an even better return. I think when you are younger you are encouraged to be more aggressive in your approach as you have time on your side. However you don't normally have money on your side or knowledge so you would be better off taking less risks with quality companies. Look at the recent big tech losses etc. Plenty of new young investors into those over the past year or so and now sitting on a big loss. History repeats itself all the time in this game so don't fall for that and play safe and stable for the long term is what I tell those who ask. | tuftymatt
15/5/2022 15:14 | woody. v funny. i wish i knew gear i've read most imo 'a mathematician plays the market' is the best conclusion - like all the others without his math is the same the mrket is unpredictable i've gone through the menu the best - apart from elliott - warren buffet buy good co's with a moat and don't be upset if your investment goes down by 50% the market is a way of transferring wealth from the impatient to the patient unfortunately, i discovered this when i was too old for it to make a difference if you're under 40, buy good divi stocks and ignore the sp i wish i had know this 20 yrs ago | adejuk

14/5/2022 21:03 | The share price of Legal & General is quite volatile in financial downturns. It does, however, look like a good top-up opportunity in a summer meltdown as the next quarter looks particularly challenging given the macro tailwinds. It's got a 20 year plus record of shareholder value creation and never had a dilutive equity raise in that time + only had small pull-back's in the dividend. So, it's a long-term growth business, with ROCE > 20% and a dividend yield of 8%. Boring it may be, but it's difficult to spot anything particularly wrong really with leading pensions, investment management and insurance arm's. It's a nice company, but on a low valuation. Boring is good. | topvest
14/5/2022 20:17 | You'll find Pierre is illiterate and lacks cognisance. Expect to break it down to baby language. | geardown107
14/5/2022 20:14 | So where did you pick it up, Wills? | klotzak
14/5/2022 18:56 | Not really | williamcooper104
14/5/2022 18:56 | Read my post again - I said I didn't believe in technical trading; other than possibly in a few instances; and even then you've to question if a human trader ever really has an edge But quite a few technical traders do have stops/risk limits and thus do better than those that don't | williamcooper104

14/5/2022 12:09 | William, do you have a site or a book to recommend on basic charting? | geardown107
14/5/2022 09:54 | William, well I suppose the proof of all these charting and very non technical 'technical' analysis theories you seem to believe in is in the pudding. Are you as rich as bill gates?. That's the test of whether future share prices are predictable or not.But we don't have to guess. Trading platforms have to inform punters that 80% of traders (likely chartists) lose their gambling pot. Fortunately only the other 20% post on advfn. | pierre oreilly
14/5/2022 09:16 | Christ almighty both, what is wrong with you?Pierre told everyone on the adult site, that talk about how rich they are, to avoid posting on here, then can't help but talk usual sh1t on here?I'd dd has hurt your feelings then stay away. | rongetsrich
13/5/2022 23:49 | ddroz.......please ban him that is an appalling comment. | bothdavis
13/5/2022 22:16 | Pierre the woke capitalist said on post 25 of the moderated board nobody from that board can post here. She’s now on here boasting about her large dividend. | ddroz
13/5/2022 18:54 | Or even better - as rich as my ex-wife :) | williamcooper104
13/5/2022 18:35 | If only it were that simple, we'd all be as rich as you ;-) | woodhawk
13/5/2022 17:30 | Actually it's pretty easy to predict - just look at its beta - about 1.4-1.5 Usually it thus goes up more and falls more than the FTSE 100 So if you have a feel for where the FTSE is going then short term you adjust for lgens beta and that gets you to where LGEN will go As in today - FTSE up 2.5 and we are up nearly 4 | williamcooper104
13/5/2022 17:26 | To extent charting gives you an edge there's no human that can compete with an algo Interestingly though traders who trade with regard to charts tend to do better than those that don't But that's because they've got a basic risk management system It's possibly interesting/more useful on short term currency movements and the VIX which always eventually mean reverts Giggle though when people start talking charts on illiquid small cap stocks | williamcooper104
13/5/2022 16:41 | I've tried 'em all, Pierre! Absolute waste of time.... charts, chicken entrails, analysts, you name it - all friggin' useless. | woodhawk
13/5/2022 16:23 | You need to take up charting woody. You look at pevious prices et voila, you can predict future prices!. Only most chartists end up bust - they just don't do it right. | pierre oreilly |
