Hi Neilyb675,

I think it was more down to a broker downgrade from Barclays FWIW:

The FOBT tax increase was actually small, the gov increased the tax from 20% to 25%, so reducing LAD's profit by 5%.

I think in time this price will look good, but Lad need to show a good operational performance over the World Cup, if not the market will punish them.

I think the sector and Ladbrokes in particular are out of favour. The gov meddling is not helping the sector and the historically poor mobile/online side is holding back Lad.

Lad need to demonstrate concrete improved performance before people start buying in here.

How bookies are the big winners at the World Cup
Friday 18th July 2014
Tournaments around the football world are notoriously hard to predict, meaning that usually the bookies are the biggest winners. Looking at the World Cup, there were plenty of markets that were tipped to be pretty much nailed on winners – such as the host country Brazil winning the whole thing. On some websites they had odds as low as 3/1 to lift the trophy, but after the tournament ending injury to star man, Neymar, and the semi-final suspension of their captain, Thiago Silva, they were embarrassed 7-1 by eventual winners Germany in the penultimate round. Brazil's South American rivals, Argentina, who were also tipped very strongly at the start of the tournament, fell at the last hurdle as Germany became the first European side to win a World Cup title in the Americas. With the two favourites for the tournament both failing to win, as well as reigning champions Spain, it was a nightmare for punters, many of whom turned their attention from betting to playing online pokies at sites such as pokiesheaven.com.au
None of the striking favourites managed to pick up the Golden Boot either, with that accolade going to Colombian James Rodriguez who scored six goals and for many people was a relative unknown before the tournament began. Thomas Müller came second with five goals, while Lionel Messi, Neymar and Robin van Persie managed to score four goals each. England weren't expected to set the tournament alight, but many predicted that they would manage to squeeze themselves out of the group stage. England fans tend to be very patriotic whenever their national side reaches a national tournament, and it's fair to presume that a few bets will have been placed on England having a decent tournament. The bookies, once again, were the winners on that market with Roy Hodgson's side, despite showing promise in their first game, failing to win a single match and crashing out of the tournament before the final group fixture had even taken place. Even with the large number of free bet offers that were available to entice punters in, the bookies will still able to make huge profits from the tournament. Just these main markets demonstrate how the bookies, once again, were the real winners at the World Cup.

Paypal app is a World Cup winner

Published: 1 Jul 2014 10:20
It isn't just regular veteran gamblers who are likely to be pleased by the latest major initiative in British online gambling - because thanks to Ladbrokes everyone who likes a flutter can now bet what they like and where they like ...even if it's just that annual Grand National wager or, as now, the World Cup.
In a few months it will be seen as a logical and inevitable development, but at the moment it arguably amounts to inspired timing for an idea whose time has definitely come.
PayPal is the world's most popular and online payment system, and Ladbroke's have stolen a march on the opposition by integrating it into the mobile version of their site - which means gamblers can use Paypal for aspects of gambling that can range from sports to casino games such as poker or blackjack.
The timing is perfect for Ladbrokes, as it can expect a massive surge of interest around the World Cup, but as word spreads - very quickly, we can be assured - it's very likely large numbers will be drawn to the Ladbrokes site to bet on all sorts of other different games and matches.
This is because people like the convenience of Paypal, and are also more likely to spend money online if no bank details need to be entered.
It amounts to a major boost for a site that was already developing in breadth and accessibility, and users will find that all forms of the site have been upgraded to allow for faster load speeds during those nail-biting World Cup clashes.
Figures show that around a third of people in the UK use PayPal exclusively to pay for goods or services online - and that of that huge number a majority use the facility frequently.
Ladbrokes is concerned with sales, as with any other business, and these days a mobile app that allows clients to make payments is normal and expected - allowing people with limited time to spare to book holidays, access finances or even just to find the best price for a tyre.
Now, with most of the UK now covered by 3G and Wifi access, anyone who does want to gamble won't have to make a special trip to the bookie's - and that is particularly useful for someone who is "out of town" or, perhaps, only wants to bet a pound or two for fun.
Whether the amount is large or small, Paypal remains the most popular payment system online because of the built-in safety factor provided by necessary security checks - which in turn builds confidence in the whole process.
So while the winner of the tournament is still a matter of one bet against another at the moment, the odds would appear to be heavily in favour of Ladbrokes gaining the inside track on other high street bookies firms during the World Cup.
And it paves the way for further development, putting Ladbrokes in the fast lane of modern technology, with a system that's now fully up to speed with the latest consumer preferences - a winning form some rivals may struggle to replicate.

IMO the Fifa World Cup was not the only money maker this year
for the bookies, Wimbledon would also have been a money maker,
quite a few upsets in the early rounds.

WMH report next week, good results there will give there resent
rise more legs, great boost to the sector with LAD results out
on the 12/8.

Topped up today at 135.9p including costs. Juicy 6.6% yield and I suspect the many of the World Cup results will have been good for the bookies.
