The BRICS summit is next week (Tuesday to Thursday) and possibly there is relevant central bank buying behind the gold price.
Central bank buying is relatively insensitive to price. The algorithms need to be re-educated. The CBs don't buy silver, which is possibly why it has been lagging. It will be the algorithms that will drive its price.
Both Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia have been members since the start of the year.
There is also the x-border settlement system currently being developed, mBridge, a project led by the Bank for International Settlements (which has its own gold reserves) and Saudi Arabia is also participating in that project.
Both of these projects could potentially raise demand from participating central banks for gold. |

Actually, Douglas, it was only 16m shares (as against 31m on Wednesday) so only around a quarter of 1%.
