I am wondering whether we should still expect a "left field" announcement that MM intimated in an interview a couple of months ago?
Would also be nice to also get a clearer idea of timing of next steps. If they are to resume work on the ground, I guess finance will be an issue. I know they raised £500k in April but I don't expect that will go far. Some juicy news before any raise would be good. A JV or other involvement of a Major or Mid Tier would solve the funding issue and give a big confidence boost. They MUST be running a rule over what KAV (probably?) have.

This is my retirement stock play.I believe this share is currently worth about 5p based on fact the geology has been proven to be similar to norilsk. But what blows my mind is there could be more than one norilsk in the KSZ and majors now know this too so this share could move anytime with no notice but if we get to drilling and find it first I’ll see you on the beach.
Cheers

Thank you for all your hard work here.
But I need also to remind everyone of KAVS strategy KSZ is the main play because management believe in it.
So they stated Ditau and Kalahari copper plays are cash cows that will be used to further exploration in the KSZ because the more drilling they can do the more value can be added strengthening their position in a JV with the majors all the time reducing dilution of the company.
Why because they are invested in the company MM is biggest share holder.
This is why long time holders like me are still here I didn’t sell at 4p last time I won’t be next time either unless I see 0s on the end.

"Now we know the mechanism works what we need to imagine there is huge amounts of magma so we know from studies from elsewhere that thousands of cubic kilometers, If you can imagine what a cubic kilometer of lava looks like we are talking about thousands if not millions of cubic kilometers of lava passing through this system. So we only need small quantities of metal sulphides to be trapped and accumulated in trap zones or in areas where the sill is thicker and deeper to form a magmatic sulphide deposit."

Just for reference here's one cubic kilometer. Mike is talking several thousand if not millions of cubic kilometers of lava passing through the plumbing system at the KSZ.

Transcript of interview with Mike Moles Today

The report was done by Dr. Pendergrast who was a consultant for us when we first started and he looked at the core of previous workers and he was the person who flagged the whole concept that we might be looking at a Norilsk style magmatic sulphide situation. So, what we have done now as a result of the drilling that we did in November we have given him some more samples of drill core that we have actually produced and asked him to do a report on that. So what he has done is look at the petrology. So the petrology is looking at the rocks and the minerals that compose the rocks which he has done through examining slides, thin section slides so that he can see what the rocks look like under a microscope.

He has also been looking at the mineralogy which he is only able to do by looking at the whole rock geochemistry. The idea is he will be able to see what the rock is composed in terms of the number of atoms that exist in the rocks. What he hasn’t been able to do is specifically look inside the individual minerals to see what they are individually composed of. That is now going to be done at the University of Leicester by Dr David Holwell and those sample have gone to him.

The real breakthrough about all this and what we are really excited about is that Dr. Pendergrast has come up with two things that are really important. One is that the copper and the nickel that are in the rock, virtually all of the copper is in the form of sulphides and a large proportion of the nickel is also in the sulphide which means that the sulphur has been extracting all the metals that we are interested in and drawing them into sulphides and no longer residing in the silicates.

The other thing that is also very important is that in one of the samples there was a huge amount of sulphur 18,700 ppm which is 1.8% no you do not get that in a gabbroic rock unless the magma has incorporated sedimentary sulphur into it. That has always been our contention that particularly coal measures have been incorporated into the molten rock and provided the sulphur necessary for the formation of metal sulphides.

So I would just like to take you back to the start of the whole process. We have got molten magma down right down several kilometres below the earth’s surface. It’s in a molten form, it’s rising up through vertical cracks and fissures within the earth’s crust and as it comes up you can move horizontally into sills and very close to the surface those sills have intruded into these sulphur rich sediments which are recognized by coal measures. These are sulphur rich. What happens now is that there is a small amount of copper and nickel and cobalt and all sorts of other metals in the magma. They in themselves are not concentrated enough to form a deposit so what it needs to do now is to concentrate and it’s the sulphur that does that. We know that the sulphur is there now in large quantities it will extract the copper and the nickel and prevent it from going into the silicate rocks which it would otherwise do.

The metal sulphide is now quite heavy and dense so the liquid then sinks to the bottom of the sill and imagine also at the same time the magma is moving along the sill it is being transported through a plumbing system so that eventually it will come out on the surface. Now we know the mechanism works what we need to imagine there is huge amounts of magma so we know from studies from elsewhere that thousands of cubic kilometres, If you can imagine what a cubic kilometre of lava looks like we are talking about thousands if not millions of cubic kilometres of lava passing through this system. So we only need small quantities of metal sulphides to be trapped and accumulated in trap zones or in areas where the sill is thicker and deeper to form a magmatic sulphide deposit.

So, what this report really tells us is that the whole mechanism is there, what it hasn’t yet done, what we haven’t yet confirmed is where the metal sulphide will have been deposited. And that is a job that is now ongoing. We’re running a computer generated 3D model which is based upon all the work we have done over the previous years to construct this model which will show us the geometry of these sills and once we have identified those sills which have thicker portions, where there is a keel or a trap zone where metal sulphide liquid may have accumulated that’s where we are going to find the magmatic sulphide deposit.

So, once we have identified those target zones we will then go out into the field and do what they call a low frequency EM surveys which we anticipate will pick up the metal sulphide deposits at depth. Of course, we can only go down 300m or 350m I am sure there will be metal sulphides much deeper than that but it’s not going to be viable from an expiration point of view. So you know we are very excited about this because it’s a major step forward and leads us into the next phase of our exploration.

Summary of rest of interview – Back working on the ground in Botswana hopefully within the next two to three weeks.

The news from @KavangoRes strongly supports the thesis that a Ni-Cu-PGE style magmatic ore body formed at the KSZ. With such a technicaly challenging deposit, such academic evidence is fantastic to see.

Kavango surges on further evidence of 'Norilsk style' deposits at the Kalahari Suture Zone
The latest independent consultant's report on core samples from 2019's drilling campaign on the KSZ confirmed two more characteristics that KSZ shares with the PGMs-rich Norilsk deposits in Russia

Kavango Resources PLC -
Kavango Resources PLC (LON:KAV) saw its shares surge in early deals after an update on its Kalahari Suture Zone (KSZ) prospect.

The Botswana-focused mineral exploration company said the independent consultant’s report on the petrology and mineral composition of core samples from the 2019 drilling campaign confirmed two further characteristics of the geology of the KSZ that are shared by the Norilsk deposits in Russia, which host some of the world's richest mineralised zones of copper-nickel-platinum group metals.

The two shares characteristics are the presence of cumulate rocks and sulphide liquid fractionation.

“The observation of sedimentary grains of silica in the gabbro again confirms that Karoo sediments (including sulphur-rich coal measures) were incorporated into the magma. This is supported by the sulphur content of the samples which are generally well above average values for magmatic gabbro. For example, one sample recorded a sulphur value of 18,700ppm [parts per million],” Kavango said in a statement.

The consultant noted that all of the copper and some of the nickel resides in the sulphides, which suggests that free sulphur was available for the development of a dense copper-nickel rich sulphide (immiscible) liquid phase.

"The publication by our consultant, Dr Prendergast, of his report is an important step forward for the company, as it seeks to validate its exploration hypothesis that one or more 'Norilsk style' deposits exist in association with magmatic rocks along the KSZ structure in SW Botswana,” Michael Foster, the chief executive officer of Kavango Resources added.

“There now seems little doubt that there was enough sulphur in the magma to form a metal sulphide liquid phase. Dr Prendergast's report suggests that as much as 50% of the nickel and perhaps all of the copper in the magma may have precipitated as metal sulphides. The quantity of metal sulphide precipitated is a function of how much magma passed through the system on its way to the surface. All the indications suggest that it was in the order of several thousand cubic kilometres,” Foster explained.

“Where the metal sulphide was precipitated and eventually crystallised is now the main focus of the company's exploration. Geological modelling of the gabbroic intrusives in the Hukuntsi area identify areas of gabbro sill thickening similar to those associated with major orebodies at Norilsk. These zones of sill thickening are now being mapped and evaluated. Targets for ground-based low-frequency EM surveying are being selected and the surveys will be carried out once the Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted,” he added,

Shares in Kavango were up 10.4% at 2.65p in early deals.

Kavango Resources (KSZ LN) 2.62p, Mkt cap £5m – Petrology report confirms further similarities between the Kahalari Sutre Zone and the Norilsk nickel system in Russia

Kavango has had a petrology report done by Dr Martin Prendergast, an independent consultant, on the petrology and mineral composition of core samples, taken from the KSZ ‘Kalahari Suture Zone’.

The report shows similarities between the KSZ and the giant Norilsk deposits in Russia.

The geological theory is simple yet complex to work out

Investors should view the following presentation by Kavango’s chief geologist, Mike Moles, about the Kahalari Sutre Zone.

It only takes 2 mins but it explains all of what Kavango is about

Kavango has been able to courier core samples from last year’s drilling to whole rock analysis and preparation of polished thin sections.

The thin sections and analytical data were then couriered to Dr Prendergast in Scotland for interpretation and reporting.

“The analysis shows there was enough sulphur in the magma to form a metal sulphide liquid phase.

Dr Prendergast’s report suggests that as much as 50% of the nickel and perhaps all of the copper in the magma may have precipitated as metal sulphides.

The quantity of metal sulphide precipitated is a function of how much magma passed through the system on its way to the surface.

All the indications suggest that it was in the order of several thousand cubic kilometres.

Where the metal sulphide was precipitated and eventually crystallised is now the main focus of the company’s exploration.

Geological modelling of the gabbroic intrusives in the Hukuntsi area identify areas of gabbro sill thickening similar to those associated with major orebodies at Norilsk.

These zones of sill thickening are now being mapped and evaluated. Targets for ground based low frequency EM surveying are being selected and the surveys will be carried out once the Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted.”

Dr Prendergast’s analysis confirms the presence of cumulate rocks and sulphide liquid fractionation

Kavango have also had a ‘Mineral System Review’ prepared by Dr David Holwell and Daryl Blanks. It’s a 23-page report but there are enough pictures to describe the geology and make it interesting.

hxxps://www.kavangoresources.com/media/attachments/2020/04/29/mineral-systems-review-of-the-ksz-botswana.pdf

Conclusion: Investors should view Mike Moles’ short video to understand what the team are looking for. While the theory is extremely compelling in practice the team need to decide where to drill for the best chance to hit Norilsk style mineralisation. The problem is compounded by thick Kalahari sand cover which masks the underlying rocks and makes discovery all the more challenging. If we are lucky nature will repeat itself for Kavango in a similar style to Norilsk if not, we have to hope they will hit something else of potential economic value.
