A 3D sectional view looking south down the KSZ (Hukuntsi section). It shows the "keels" and "wings " of the sills very nicely. The "keels" are where we would expect to find metal sulphide mineralisation as per the schematic (after Barnes et al 2015) of a typical sill at Norilsk (below).

Kavango shares 'striking' geological similarities to giant Norilsk nickel project in Russia

Mining Capital's Alastair Ford updates Proactive London following an update earlier this week from Kavango Resources PLC (LON:KAV). They've published initial images of three dimensional geological modelling developed from data obtained from the Kalahari Suture Zone (KSZ) project in south-western Botswana. The images confirm significant similarities between the northern Hukuntsi section of the KSZ and the giant Norilsk mining centre in Siberia. Norilsk accounts for 90% of Russia's nickel reserves, 55% of its copper and virtually all of its' platinum group metals.

I'd be more than happy with a JV on good terms prior to drilling if it accelerates the timeline and pushes project forward, not to mention the potential cash injection and if it reduces the need for additional fundraising.

Looking at the scale of the KSZ a large % of the project would still be worth billions if they find anything Norilsk like.

Summary of Mike's interview

Coming to fruition of a long period of desktop work undertaken during lock down
Based on compilation of huge amount of data from varying sources on KSZ (drill holes, airborne EM, existing available data etc.)
Built up a 3D picture of what is underneath Kalahari sands in collaboration with world leader Mira Geoscience
Big advance in moving toward finding a copper/nickel deposit
3D images of KSZ sills are remarkably similar to those at Norilsk – very encouraging
The sills have a deep keel to them and that’s where the massive sulphides reside like at Norilsk
Have now found the keels at the KSZ and can see them in 3D
Pick 5 or 6 best looking targets
Have just got back on the ground – large loop ground based EM surveying this year and drilling 2021
Only drill down to approx. 400m
Re: financing - Preferred option is a JV partner to share drilling costs of what would be an extensive campaign
History of prudent financial management and coming in under budget (though this has sometimes led to longer timescales)
Working towards proof of concept – got to demonstrate that our theory is correct – we are very close to that point
Once concept is proven then it will be relatively easy to find a JV partner and on good terms
Micro-probe work being done soon on nickel depletion at University of Leicester – final box to be ticked on similarities between KSZ and Norilsk
Most important thing now is to get the geophysical work done – once see conductive zones in the keels of the sills, and we anticipate there will be, then decide on drilling program and a JV partner

Disappointed in the share price reaction but Kav is still unknown to a lot of potential players.

“Overall, this has been a highly encouraging summer for Kavango as it has advanced its exploration theory in the KSZ. The potential targets are huge, and it is now a question of finding them.

This really is elephant hunting of the highest order.

With a £5 million market cap, the potential upside here is immense.”

KAV

SP Angel . Morning View .

Kavango Resources (KAV LN) 2.85p, Mkt cap £4.5m – Further data on similarities between the Kahalari Suture Zone and the Norilsk nickel system in Russia

Kavango Resources has released further details of its 3D modelling showing geological similarities between the northern, Hukuntsi, zone of its Kalahari Suture Zone (KSZ) project in Botswana and the Norilsk region of Siberia which “accounts for 90% of Russia's nickel reserves, 55% of its copper and virtually all of its' platinum group metals”.

The company’s modelling which incorporates airborne magnetic and electromagnetic geophysical data as well as drill hole and resistivity information, “depict flat lying Karoo gabbro sills in 3D, which bear a remarkable resemblance to those containing large deposits of copper, nickel and platinum group metal (Cu/Ni/PGM) rich massive sulphides in the Norilsk mining centre in Siberia”.

In particular, the modelling identifies 10 large scale geological sills (“Relatively thin, planar, horizontal bodies of solidified gabbroic magma that intruded into layers of sedimentary rock whilst still molten”) covering some 300km2 “within 400m of the surface, making them viable exploration targets”.

“Kavango's geologists will now work to select up to six of the most prospective targets for follow up exploration and drilling”.

CEO, Michael Foster, explained that the imagery was a major step forward in the company’s exploration of the KSZ which allowed them “to view the gabbroic intrusions in 3D. We can see their shape, size thickness and their depth from surface. We can clearly identify and locate the thicker parts of the sills for follow up EM surveying … which should culminate in an extensive drilling programme in the KSZ."

The company includes a link to a more detailed presentation describing the similarities with Norilsk at

hxxps://www.kavangoresources.com/media/attachments/2020/04/29/mineral-systems-review-of-the-ksz-botswana.pdf as well as a number of detailed vertical sections.

Conclusion: Kavango Resources is building a compelling technical case for the geological similarities between its KSZ project and the well-known Noriilsk deposits. Ultimately however the challenge will be to build on the impressive technical work to identify and prove up a commercial body of mineralisation.

It seems that all the trades are small volume so far. Could really do with some substantial positions being taken (unless delayed trades go through later?) to push this over 3p. Come on Mike, lets have another interview! :-)

"Next steps at Hukuntsi

Kavango’s geologists will now select six of the most prospective “keels” at Hukuntsi for large loop, low frequency EM surveying to test for massive sulphide concentrations, which are known to be highly conductive.

The Company expects this work will result in the identification of high-priority targets for future drilling."

______

Funding is in place for the EM Surveying but further funding will be required for the extensive drilling campaign. I'd rather that they don't go down the JV route at such as early stage.

Looks like an extremely interesting story @ KAV especially the KSZ

Norilsk is I believe the world's biggest mine?

Also the KAV chart looks very bullish - perhaps a re-visit of the old highs at circa 5p might now be in order?

Kavango highlights similarities between northern Kalahari Suture Zone and Norilsk with new images

2020-09-08 07:59:00
The Kalahari Suture Zone could turn out to be transformational for the company
Kavango Resources PLC -

Kavango Resources PLC (LON:KAV) has published initial images of three dimensional geological modelling developed from data obtained from the Kalahari Suture Zone project in south-western Botswana.

The images confirm significant similarities between the northern Hukuntsi section of the KSZ and the giant Norilsk mining centre in Siberia. Norilsk accounts for 90% of Russia's nickel reserves, 55% of its copper and virtually all of its' platinum group metals.

Kavango increasingly believes that Hukuntsi has the potential to host very significant copper, nickel and platinum group metal deposits.

The 3D model incorporates thousands of data points, collected from two phases of airborne electro-magnetic and magnetic surveying as well as drill hole data and resistivity surveys completed over the Hukuntsi section of the KSZ.

"The imagery coming out of the computer-generated geological model is quite spectacular and potentially transformational for the company,” said chief executive Mike Foster.

“We are now able to view the gabbroic intrusions in 3D. We can see their shape, size thickness and their depth from surface. We can clearly identify and locate the thicker parts of the sills for follow up EM surveying. This is a major step forward in our exploration, which should culminate in an extensive drilling programme in the KSZ."
