25/11/2004 10:31 | Yesterday's results are truly awful. I first posted my concerns about this company earlier in the year and I hope that others like me took the opportunity to offload their holdings. Looking through the detail of the results shows that this share is a dog. For the last four years or so, there has been a recurring problem sometimes well hidden in the company reports concerning their inability to recruit and retain high quality staff. This appears to be a problem yet again. This time in addition, they seem to have made a right dog's dinner of running the shops whilst they concentrated on the opening a new flagship format. They only have around ten outlets - how hard can it be to keep a management eye on the other nine? With cash reserves falling, stock levels rising and sales down 25% on the key products, things are starting to look grim for them. Clearly, they need to look very hard at how the stores and staff are managed. In many companies, heads would roll for this level of sales performance. it is a shame because the product offering is a good one,but like some other companies poor quality management is the key issue. With a declining housing market, I cannot see a recovery on the horizon. | santana
05/11/2004 19:51 | double6?, Hungerford?. | responsible lad
05/11/2004 14:15 | This share should be called double6 of Hungerford, Thanks for the tip double6. | responsible lad
05/11/2004 11:13 | This share would suite double6 down to a T, because of the hungerford in its name, "John Lewis of hungerford". double6 are you buying any?. | responsible lad
03/9/2004 11:23 | RNS Number:5876C John Lewis Of Hungerford PLC 03 September 2004 As sales revenues for the year to 31 August 2004 are likely to be approximately 12% below those of the prior year to 31 August 2003, the Board expects that the Company will report a pre-tax loss for the full year to 31 August 2004. The decline in year-on-year sales is the result of a number of exceptional factors including an acute shortage of design staff at several of the Company's showrooms. Most showrooms are now adequately staffed although many designers remain under training. The Summer Sale has produced excellent results and the Company currently has a strong order book. | safman
27/8/2004 14:35 | everybody safely out I hope? | santana
