As the NAV was £37m (at the interim stage) even if the company really struggles shareholders should get back a multiple of
their share value as it currently trades on over 80% discount to NAV.

Unfortunately, it's not that simple. With their high level of debt and potential inability to service it administration is a possibility. Shareholders would be lucky to get anything back from such a situation. Will keep an eye on it from time to time to see if they can get themselves out of the mess and realise the value on the balance sheet, though. Good luck.

StewJames, I did see that you invest in some decent companies. I like your style (i.e going for value). I took a peek at some of them the other day.

I can see your point, this one is not for the faint hearted and I wouldn't put my life savings into it. The company is in process of selling off assets (Hotels) and is currently receiving the book value for these sales. As the NAV was £37m (at the interim stage) even if the company really struggles shareholders should get back a multiple of their share value as it currently trades on over 80% discount to NAV. A £4m charge was made against the P&L account last time around just in case the book value of sales was not reached. I assume that as the book value of sales is in fact being attained this £4m will be added back as profit at some point. You may wish to wait for the results at end of April before investing.

Since no-one else is playing, I'll keep you company...

One question: the balance sheet looks a bit scary. Does it concern you? If not, why not?

Why don't we take a 25% holding between us (i.e. approx £1m) and appoint our own non-exec director to oversee our interests?

I agree that this is a dead cert. I will be piling in on Monday morning if it hasn't gone up to much and my broker doesn't fart about with trade sizes. (I moved from Schwab to imiweb, but imiweb is rubbish!!)

Small shareholders of CHE got a free boost to their investments when the hotel group's parent, Choice Hotels International of the US, took the unprecedented step of writing off its 71% stake, the Financial Times reported.
