01/11/2016 04:28 | Thanks Ian That CC was encouraging, particularly the fact that their potential customers for X30's biggest concern seems to be power consumption ( alongside camera function). If that's true it bodes very well for us going forward S | sweenoid
31/10/2016 22:46 | Samsung exec stated he could not comment on the Samsung note thing, as "samsung is a customer". Seems to be interpreted by the article as suggesting that they are a forthcoming customer. The same Credit Suisse guy as quoted in the eetimes article says that he thinks there is no deal yet, but there will be a deal in 2017 with Samsung. There have been reports that mediatek is already shipping mali-chips 6737 and 6750 to samsung for low end handsets. Transscript of the mediatek earnings call for those who are interested Around 50% of the questions relate to the X30. They are actually hoping to be the FIRST 10nm app pro available. Also have hopes of it exceeding X20 volumes. | twatcher
31/10/2016 22:30 | LOL, very good :) | twatcher
31/10/2016 21:48 | we should try and arrange an interview with our CEO with Mr Patterson the writer of that EE Times article. Last time he spoke to them he revealed a lot of info ;-) Looks to be very good news S | sweenoid
31/10/2016 19:57 | Mediatek to be amongst the first with 10nm chips, with the X30 (IMG) Big New Customer? The company appears to have its first design win with the world’s biggest smartphone maker, Samsung Electronics, according to Randy Abrams, an analyst with Credit Suisse, speaking on the conference call. Could be mediatek might come good for IMG after all | twatcher
31/10/2016 18:48 | Anyone done a search on Nibiru yet ? Dearie me, there are some live ones out there. | hammerd2
31/10/2016 16:25 | thanks to foxy for this link S | sweenoid
30/10/2016 08:38 | It'll definitely get there but hopefully not til it's got to 240p this week first. | hammerd2
29/10/2016 22:02 | Hoping for £2.00 | netwatcher
28/10/2016 22:11 | Another trading buying opportunity. Opened and accepted. | hammerd2
28/10/2016 17:31 | Interesting share price movement IMHO. | freddie ferret
28/10/2016 10:11 | Based on the (false) assumption that Apple have employed GPU engineers so must be intending to build their own GPU, I guess with 46 jobs currently advertised in Linkedin for CPU guys ARM's cpu days are numbered!!! | adventurous
27/10/2016 15:06 | More semi consolidation NXP are old PowerVR partners - most recently this - wonder if that means they will migrate Adreno cores into those GPU elements now. | hammerd2
27/10/2016 12:18 | Looking from the outside, it's impossible to know where the split of design lies. Did IMG design ad-hoc cores for Apple. Is Apple mostly doing GPU customisation in isolation of IMG ? Who knows, it looks like Apple is certainly doing customisations, as they have built up significant resources to do so. Of course, this has been rumoured, and even stated by anandtech for several years. The posting also compares released IMG docs with released Apple docs. It can't of course compare docs from IMG for 8XT, as 8XT has not been formally announced, although we know it exists and has been licensed. So we have no idea whether many of the differences portrayed in posting, are actually in 8XT (and in the A10). Whether or not its an issue for IMG depends on whether apple doing customisations reduces royalty returns for IMG. Also, I recall from several years ago, that in general a signficant portion of license fees was to offset the cost of customer support and customisation work. Apple doing more of the work, might have an impact on licensing fees, but again like all these things, we don't actually know. Finally Apple doing more work would imply IMG doing less work, which in theory frees up people to do other things, assuming there are other things to do ! | twatcher
27/10/2016 11:22 | Quick in and out Rog, fiddler's elbow style :-) not a bad couple of day's work and pocketed a bunch of free shares. D, only things really can be dodgy batteries or dodgy charging circuits or a combo of both. Or something internal is shorting on something. It's extremely unlikely to the point of impossibility that it's down to the GPU core although that shouldn't stop us celebrating the failure of a product powered by a rival or problems for Samsung who, frankly, deserve most things they get IMO. Apparently they also have problems with fires in washing machines and fridges I seem to recall which takes some skill. COYIIIIIIS | hammerd2
27/10/2016 11:01 | Buy cheap, buy twice, springs to mind ;) | richardc77
27/10/2016 10:30 | If it is the Mali, they will have to have a fire sale. just waiting for a large Chinese concern to pop over 3% then we will have some fun C.O.Y.I. well done KEN | boleyn
27/10/2016 10:01 | Mali goes up in smoke?? | jamesrowe
27/10/2016 09:34 | THanks Taffy BEYOND BATTERIES eh, this harks back to my decidedly non- techie question ( I don't think anyone bothered to respond to it ;-)) some time ago. Sammy obviously don't believe it was just a 'battery issue' , that's implicit in their statement. So the question begs, what components in a smartphone cause power demands that can't be satisfied by its battery I think it's a short list ....but what do I know :-) S | sweenoid
27/10/2016 08:35 | More of the same but mentions 16 bit FP a bit more as the rationale for the original piece. Which IMG IP supports 'but do not require' ! | hammerd2
27/10/2016 08:03 | I didn't realise I was unzipped D - sorry :-) | hammerd2
