Marked down 7p on 500 shares. From the ridiculous to the more ridiculous. At some point these will be a screaming buy unless we really are embarked on a era where we will be picking up shiny objects from the pavement.

Good luck to matt123d, though it's funny that I don't remember him ever saying he'd actually bought in here in the first place...perhaps I'll go on the PNA and BGO threads to say I've sold all my positions there :o))

Sold entire holding over the last few days, very difficult to liquidate this one in this market and have added to my positions in PNA and BGO with the proceeds.

Well....we are now on a price to sales ratio (PSR) of about 0.75 which is what bombed out basket cases like Woolworths generally trade at. Time to pick up a few (?) or are we really entering the new armageddon where all public spending and house building is stopped for years and no-one cares if anywhere or anyone floods?

Hydro International Realigns US Business Structure After Acquisition Growth
Company's Three US Operations to Provide Solutions in Wastewater, Wet Weather and Stormwater Management Markets

PORTLAND, Maine--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Hydro International, a leading provider of environmentally sustainable products and innovative solutions that control and treat stormwater, wastewater and combined sewer overflows, today announced a new market-focused US business structure poised to take advantage of increasing opportunities in the municipal wastewater, stormwater and "wet weather" markets.

The company's wastewater operation, based in Hillsboro, Ore., brings Hydro and Eutek Systems, which Hydro purchased in May 2008, under one roof. The new operation now offers the world's most advanced solutions to separate, wash and dewater grit from municipal and industrial wastewater.

The wet weather operation, based in Portland, Maine, oversees the company's innovative solutions designed to improve management of wet weather flows within collection systems and wastewater treatment plants including combined sewer overflows, sanitary sewer overflows and storm discharges at wastewater treatment plants.

The US stormwater operation, also based in Portland, Maine, provides a full range of solutions to control and treat urban runoff from MS4 communities with separate storm sewer and sanitary sewer systems. Hydro's portfolio of treatment products include filters and vortex separators, which are used to comply with the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) regulations requiring the removal of "nonpoint source" pollutants from stormwater runoff.

"This new organizational structure gives Hydro a renewed focus on strategic segments of the US water market that will allow us to better serve the needs of our customers," said Chris Williams, Chief Operating Officer of Hydro International. "These operations are positioned to build on our long history of innovation and top-quality service and capitalize on growth potential in our target markets."

The wastewater operation's portfolio of grit management solutions includes a number of advanced technologies designed to collect and dewater grit from municipal and industrial waste streams, including the Grit King®, Eutek TeaCup™ and Eutek HeadCell™.

The stormwater operation markets the Up-Flo® Filter, a high-capacity filtration system used for the control of sediments, nutrients, metals and hydrocarbons; and the Downstream Defender®, an advanced vortex separator with unique internal components that increase removal efficiency and prevent pollutant washout, as well as flow controls, inlet controls and stormwater storage media.

The wet weather operation markets the Storm King® advanced vortex separator, Hydro-Jet® Screen, Hydro-Static® Screen and Heliscreen ® and the Reg-U-Flo® Vortex Valve flow control device.

The Wet Weather Division also is marketing the newly available Hydro Vortex Drop™ Shaft for controlling flows from high-level sewers into deep tunnels. The compact, single-shaft system dissipates the energy of dropping water in order to protect sewer infrastructure from noise, vibration and damage. Sewer systems with deep drops that are not protected by advanced drop shaft technology can destabilize or collapse from high-pressure air buildups, violent impacts from falling water, and transient and surging flows.

The wastewater and wet weather operations will showcase their products at the upcoming WEFTEC conference on Oct. 19-22 in Chicago. The Hydro International wastewater team will be at Booth #32031 and the Hydro International wet weather team will be at Booth #28157 at the show."

HYD are getting busy...

"Floods 'n' SUDS 2
Thursday, 9th October 2008 One Great George Street Conference Centre, London

Following on from the very successful Floods 'n' SUDS conference hosted by Hydro International at Tewkesbury on 1st July, it has been decided to hold another similar event on Thursday 9th October 2008 in the heart of London at One Great George Street, the home of The Institution of Civil Engineers ( ICE ).

The feedback from the delegates at Tewkesbury was excellent and the line up of speakers for this new event 'Floods 'n' SUDS 2' has been pulled together taking into account the suggestions and comments received in July.

Over 160 people attended the Tewkesbury conference and heard a range of presentations outlining experiences in the aftermath of the summer floods of 2007. There was also lively debate and discussion around the studies and reports relating to flooding that were produced during 2008, as well as case study material and real examples of how flooding issues can be dealt with and sustainable drainage systems implemented in an integrated way.

The proposed publication of a draft Floods and Water Bill scheduled for consultation in Spring 2009 was also outlined by Environment Minister Phil Woolas earlier this year and Floods 'n' SUDS 2 hopes to continue the lively dialogue from Tewkesbury and allow delegates to feed into this consultation process.

Anyone considering attending this prestigious venue is advised to register as quickly as possible as this conference is expected to raise a great deal of interest."

I've obtained a brief update note issued by Peel Hunt after the interims.

They maintain their estimates of 13.6p EPS this year and 16.3p EPS next year and believe that there will be "superior share price performance" after these "solid" results.

They conclude that HYD is a world leader whose 2009 P/E of 9 is too low given:

"(1) Hydro's unique product range
(2) the legislative backdrop, and
(3) the potential upside from penetrating new markets"

I couldn't agree more :o))

Yet another US sales appointment, and an impressive one at that:

Me too gac100.

Flooding is top of the news agenda again I see! The Thunderer column in the leader column in today's Times calls for underground rainwater tanks to collect rainwater in every house....perhaps someone could tell him about HYD's StormBank range.

And others are again calling for sustainable drainage solutions...again, HYD have the answers.

This is why I'm happy to sit on my shares and slowly add when appropriate.

Agree these are decent results in present circumstances. Eutek looks like it will more than make up for any slack elsewhere. The cash flow negative will surely be only short term I'd have thought. As to the order book I seem to remember it didn't look great at the end of 2006, but look what HYD delivered in 2007 - so the order book number's only a very general guide, its a snapshot don't forget; shift the date back or forward a month and the number could be quite different. About the only other thing that struck me was that about 5% of H1 profits were due to favourable exchange rate. Don't expect the share price will do a great deal until the general economic situation improves ... or an ahead-of-expectations H2. LTBH for me so quite content to sit through a spell with the share price becalmed.

Interesting one Cambo. I'd guess HYD's comment that the UK water companies are delaying certain spending until H2 is a factor, and also the order book is somewhat lumpy. But it's useful to look at the order book in context...

The current order book is £10.1m. This compares to £7.0m at the last year end!

Also, last year's record interim order book of £10.8m was up from £7.2m the previous year, a probably disproportionate increase.

So in context the current order book looks high and pretty healthy, especially when compared to six months ago. Assuming the water companies approve their spending in H2, which they presumably will have to do to meet AMP4 targets, then the revised order book could look very exciting gievn that it's already at a good level.

Nice review in the Scotsman:

"Where there's mucky water, there's brass

HYDRO International, which treats wastewater and cleans and controls stormwater, has weathered the choppy waters of the US and UK economies after yesterday reporting its interim results.

Turnover rose by 35 per cent compared with the first half of last year to £14.9 million while pre-tax profits jumped by 25 per cent to £1m.

Hydro said its UK storm-water division had not suffered from the downturn in the private house-building sector because of the work it carried out for corporate clients and public-sector bodies, including supplying flow controls for Glasgow City Council's £50m White Cart flood prevention scheme.

Stephen Hides, Hydro's chief executive, said: "Although the board expects business conditions in the group's markets to remain challenging, we remain optimistic that further progress can be made in the balance of the financial year by maintaining focus on the group's strategic plan.

Hydro, which has a market cap of about £21m, operates in the UK, Ireland and the United States.

The group said its US work had been boosted by the acquisition of Eutek Systems, a rival grit removal company."

Ta NHB. I suspect the lack of comment here probably means most are in agreement that the results were good and solid, though not enough to light the blue touchpaper in this market.

I disagree about AIM though to a certain extent - stocks like KBC, GNG and RCG are doing well again, and I've had takeover bids for other stocks at good premiums. In general things are dodgy, but stockpicking is still bringing rewards in places.
