Fleckenstein: Inflation Is Coming, Pass It On

About inflation: it showed the ease with which price increases are going through.

According to the CEO of Lennox International, a heating and cooling manufacturer, “We haven’t seen any pushbacks…We’ve seen all our competitors announce similar price increases.” The article concludes with a quotation from the CEO of office furniture maker Steelcase, “It’s been a long time, if ever, that we’ve done two price increases back to back as quickly as we did.” The article had previously noted that there wasn’t much pushback on that.

Inflation has been with us for a while, but it is going to increase for a variety of reasons, and at some point psychology about it will change dramatically, which won’t be helpful to financial assets. Once it becomes a problem, it will be impossible for the Fed to fight it given the box it has engineered for itself.

hmnn ... can't help feeling PM's are about to make the next leg down v soon and too close to break even production costs.

And with HOC share price seemingly looking over quite a cliff edge possibly another test of 2016 low and another superb multi bag opportunity.

Will be watching and waiting if that plays out ... with Trump continuing to hypnotise the Yanks and the world that mainstream financial markets and dollars are the only game in town, it's not unthinkable miners are bashed down to closing down sales again.

I remember entering at 60p with just me and Goldenshares here for months.

Further to the above it seems Vanguard has been reducing here in preparation for a change to the remit and name of their Precious Metals and Mining Fund (VGPMX).

That $2.3B Vanguard Precious Metals&Mining Fund was more than a name change(to Global Capital Cycles Fund). Mining stocks (mostly gold stocks) as % of fund drops from 80% to 25%. May explain why big-cap precious metals stocks have been oddly under performing smaller names.

Vanguard Makes Changes To Two Active Equity Funds
Jul 27, 2018, 11:00 ET

VALLEY FORGE, Pa., July 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Vanguard today announced changes to two actively managed equity funds. The $2.3 billion Vanguard Precious Metals and Mining Fund (VGPMX) will be renamed to Vanguard Global Capital Cycles Fund as part of a restructuring intended to broaden the fund's mandate and diversify its portfolio. Wellington Management Company LLP will manage the fund effective today.

The restructured Global Capital Cycles Fund is intended for investors with a long-term time horizon who seek a complement to their core global equity allocation that exhibits lower correlations to the broad equity markets. The new strategy and name are expected to become effective in late September 2018.

In managing the fund, Wellington Management will adhere to a capital cycles strategy as its primary investment approach, seeking to capture opportunities in commodity-oriented industries, such as the materials and natural resource sectors, which follow cyclical patterns. The strategy will also focus on companies that own irreplaceable or scarce infrastructure assets primarily in telecommunications and utilities. While the fund will maintain meaningful exposure to precious metals and mining stocks, the capital cycles strategy encompasses a broader opportunity set from which to identify return potential.

rrr. Glad you like the thread and I agree with your sentiment .... but .....
There was a reason why the charts were removed and the thread split which caused all posters and readers plenty of angst at the time last year.

I don't know when or if we can return to how it was.

ITCF. Vanguard has been reducing their holding over the past couple of years. Seeking Alpha say they have sold around 35 million shares in that time.
Their holding is now down to 3% so it's impossible to say if they will reduce further or leave it like that ....
