At the re-list we got an optimistic.....

"The construction of the Saudi Arabian structure in Riyadh, which had been halted in 2013, is now due to be approved under a new design provision and a new contract is under negotiation."

Personally I think the Saudis know we are under the cosh,we should not do this deal if there is no profit in it.Like you,Russia is making me nervous, there is a strong possibility they will be stripped of 2018 world cup......could be the end of Blatter (please).
To be honest, the only thing keeping me interested is how they convinced TCA to lend them the money.......must be something in that.....fingers crossed.

spekky - agree, we need something soon and that stadium is more medium term and I'm not at all hopeful about any Russian stadia - I think those contracts will be just as nasty as the Brazilian ones.

I suppose a nice little project or two could really come from anywhere - now they have seen sense and realised that although the stadia may be the biggest they are not consistent enough, they may win a shopping centre, hotel, etc assuming they are now bidding.

I can't help being enthused by the prospects of a Real Madrid contract, what is likely to be one of the most prestigious projects in the next few years though.

The trouble with the middle eastern projects is that they tend to be very ambitious but often never finish up being more than a grand concept, especially since the Arab uprising. I researched many of them, including the ones Hightex had been given the nod on, got fed up with it in the end as I'm sure you have. Remember the gardens complex in the desert, Hightex had won that one, £40m for the work as I recall, but it simple evaporated

Prince Sultan Cultural Centre who knows; is on-going as far as I know but as it isn't delivering revenues I hope Hightex refuse to undertake work.

As discussed before, that is a juicy prospect, but the timeframe is not good for Hightex. We need to regain some credibility with a couple of project wins before that one.......why have we not heard about Prince Sultan Cultural Centre yet?

The link is to the official information page of IPIC (financiers) - it's confirmed on there and on the Real Madrid website - at the very least Hightex should bid for it!

It looks like it will be the most prestigious football stadium of the next few years, and Hightex a are one of one a few companies capable of doing the job.

Funny we should discuss the update of Real Madrid's stadium last week, as there is an article on the Telegraph website today that suggests they have agreed financing with Man City's owner, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al Nahyan, who has access to the vast wealth of the Abu Dhabi royal family.

That is a major step forward and unlike the Brazilian statia which were always struggling for finance will I suppose means it can to ahead irrespective of any EU or financial fair play investigation. Hightex must be front runners for the roof I would have thought!

Found a bit more on Real's stadium upgrade - cost appears to have increased by $100m to $500m, that's seems a lot for a refurb without altering the underlying structure!

Anyway the article fron CNN earlier this week suggests it's temporarily delayed due to the EU investigating the club due to unfair government support - this is what they say:

"This rumour has arisen given the legal obstacles currently challenging the refurbishment plans, with a Spanish court suspending the plans because Real is currently under investigation by the European Commission.

This is in relation to possible illegal state aid, meaning a key agreement between Real and the Madrid government with regard to the remodeled Bernabeu is temporarily suspended.

Nonetheless, a Real spokesperson told CNN last week that the work on the existing site will start in "around two years' time."

Meanwhile, the architects of a space-age stadium are pressing ahead with plans for takeoff. "We are now preparing everything," said Marg. "We are just waiting for the green light."

It's still in the design stage, awarded Feb 2014, only detail I could find are a few concept images and a summary of the project on the Spanish partner's (L35)website, it includes this text:

"From the structural point of view, the new roof is designed with elegance and efficiency. A compression beam rests neatly on the existing concrete columns. Supported on this outer ring, the inner ring is supported on stressed cables. The whole roof is mounted on the pitch and lifted into position."

So it looks like it could be one with some potential eventually, but don't hold your breath.

Cheers Spekky, I guessed it was already out there as the text on the Real website in dated 17/02/2014

Yes it is an obvious rehash, it just became highlighted in my search because it contains references to Hightex so perhaps that's the reason for the spike yesterday!!

Notwithstanding that, Hightex could still be trying to win it I suppose - I'll dig abound and see if I can find out if it's been awarded or when it's due to be.

AAA

Sorry to debunk your article but see my post 1793 back in March,it contains this link....

What you have found is basically a rehash of that article....(the smallcapnetwork one)

EDIT....I still agree though that we must be in with a shout given our previous history with GMP designs.........fingers crossed.

Just checked the Real Madrid website and it looks as though GMP have won the contract and the comments in the article extract do indeed seem to be attributable to Florentino Pérez early in 2014.

Theres no doubt if and it is an IF Hightex get a contract for this stadium it will be huge, this is what the GMP founder says and they have already designed some of the world premier stadia:

" Volkwin Marg, founder and owner of GMP said: “We have had the honour of participating in the construction of more than 20 stadiums, but this is the most important project of our career."

A very interesting possibility if nothing else.

With all the shenanigans that have gone on here over the last few months I'm reluctant to post anything I find on the internet in case it's been planted for someone to find!!!

Anyway, after that note of caution, the link below sounds plausible, it is about the Bernabéu and according to the article GMP has won the design tender - anyone that knows anything about Hightex will understand how close GMP and Hightex have worked previously.

The article is merely an extract and the full text is not accessible to me, the article originated from the smallcapnetwork.com website (I think). If Hightex do get work on the Bernabéu it is likely to be a huge contract.
