srp - The January gold buying by the Russian Central Bank is already out....

The Central Bank of Russia (CBR) boosted its holdings of gold by almost 20 metric tons last month, with reserves reaching 1,857 tons.

It seems to me that the Central Bank has reported early as officially Russia has just over taken China to become the country with 5th highest gold reserves.

I would not be at all surprised to see Russia buying at least a further 200 plus tons of gold this year which will mean by years end Russia will hold over 2,000 tons of gold in its reserves.

If Russia carry on buying at a similar rate then in less than a couple of years time they will over take both France and Italy to become the 3rd largest holding of Gold reserves, behind Germany and the USA.

The 18.09.2017 rns is about Erlinad selling shares to Denalot. The 09.01.2018 rns is about Primerod being liquidated and its shares being transferred to its sole shareholder, Mr Abramovich.

Morning SR, yes read same, gold well up, dollar weaker again so fingers crossed for a good opening and sustained push- any idea why we jumped to 148 Friday? ok we dropped back but why the initial jump? i looked at the time but could find nothing

It is getting increasingly difficult to find new good grade ore these days. Also importantly is how difficult is this lower grade to mine, if it is easier than the higher grade then it will be just as profitable.

Hopefully the gold price will keep rising and therefore the profits from the lower grade will be similar as the higher grade is today.

What are people's opinions on the lower grade ore being mined here now, surely that means lower profits and a lower divi? Or am I missing something?

Net short gold position by the banks on 13th feb was 605.1 tonnes. Given the drop of gold since then I think I can reliably predict that their net short position yesterday will have risen considerably due to their dumping of sell contracts in order to push the price lower.

As expected, the latest COT report, from the 20th, shows the banks net short position increased by 63.3 tonnes over the COMEX week ending on Tuesday. So the bank's net short in gold rose to 668.3 tonnes against the current 14.5 tonnes held for potential delivery.

Since Tuesday that position may well have increased even further as gold dropped 1.5% over the week possibly reflecting further short sales by the banks. So it goes on 'wash and rinse ad finitum'.
