Ah well, £55m was a real bargain for the Indian boys IMO.

Before the recent slump in the markets I used a consultant and came to the conclusion 400p was a good target price for HICH. Bought in at 202p sold at 275p to buy more SLN (Pharma), so I am not complaining.

Still, we move on to other things.

Good luck all and Gamblor are you still holding SLN? If so, I still have a feeling it has plenty of legs (my opinion, no tip for anyone else!).

Looks like another great British company is being picked up on the cheap by the Indians. We cant blame the Indians or the Chinese for plundering our best companies when investors here run round like frightened sheep selling down good companies to the point its just a no-brainer to buy them out. HICH at £49m with cash/financial instruments of £21m and profits likely to be in the £10m to £12m range this year is being taken out at about 2.5x earings/enterprise value. What a steal, our only hope is another bidder comes in soon.

So much for that bounce back in the market - I still think we are heavily oversold in general, however (specific sectors notwithstanding).
HICH recovered well from the low earlier this afternoon - good sign of support given that the wider market continued to sell off.

I'm off to have ar ead of the SLN thread for a much needed laugh!

Good luck

Snap, although if you see my posts there today, I have snapped bigtime with a declared shorter there.

Still hopefuly HICH is calm before the storm and we get some much needed get out money (given our positions in SLN).

Eagle - £4 was my initial target too - but that was prior to the upbeat statement from the co, which leads me to believe we could go past £4 - though I watch with caution.

I expect a bounce back in the general market in this week to come, and hope HICH rides that to the 330p level.

SLN - yep, still waiting for the elusive 'news'.... got a feeling i'll be holding for quite a number of months yet to recover my investment.

Best of luck

Hi Eagle - saw your pos on the SLN thread - I'm holding both though quite deep in the red on SLN. At least HICH has helped maintain some sanity in my portfolio!

tricky from here - £3ish reached on momentum, though it would be good to have some indicative numbers to assess where this one might land. Any thoughts / insights?

Today's deal must put $2.5m on HICH's bottom line with more to come next year on the ipo. The market is not interested but HICH is making tremendous benefit of its overseas offices. Can they keep doubling profits year on year? Its a tall order but perhaps they can.

No working capital??? HICH had £10m and has raised £4m cash from two leading institutions at 350p and 375p recently. There is a shorting campaign including all sorts of malicious rumours but I just see it as an opportunity to buy very cheap stock. Carry on shorting gentlemen, but try sticking with the facts.

Interesting. A deal with HICH and WHI would make sense and create a powerful player but my money is on bigger predators in the sector that will take out WHI, HICH and DAN. All three look seriously undervalued and the shares of HICH and DAN have come back 25% on the silly panic about subprime. HICH delivered a stonking set of half year numbers which exceeded last years full year, growth is running at over 100%. I fancy DAN will also deliver strong interims soon after last years debacle thanks to those insane Yanks giving all the listed gaming companies to the mob for free!

Sorry but I don't see that. Why do they ned to keep raising cash? They are a broker, they don't have to buy stuff in to sell, they don't have development costs - what 'working capital' does a stockbroker need?

Basically they have said 'hey, let's have a placing, at a discount and dilute shareholders holdings yet again.

Since the results they've issued 400K, 525K, 200K, 438K - nearly 1.6m shares in total, that's a 10% dilution. If they do double pre-tax profit this year they will do just over 20p eps. That's a PE of 20 for the current year.

They don't pay a divi either for a company that is 'the oldest stockbroker in the country' as they say - I don't know why it is that a company this old isn't paying a divi.

Quite a contrast to Jarvis (JIM) which are on a similar fwd PE but have said they are 'significantly ahead' of those forecasts, they are also growing profits at 100% p.a. In contrast tho they actually pay a div (2% paid before the interims are published) and they are actually buying their own shares back rather than issuing more and more. Jarvis have bought back 7% of their shares this year and continue to do so compared to HICH issuing 10% more shares. Add the divi to the shares JIM have bought back and they have returned over 10% to shareholder over the past year.

I was holding both JIM and HICH yesterday but sold HICH after this latest placing, it just doesn't add up for me. Previously they have said 'institutional demand' was the reason for the placing. Yesterday's placing wasn't institutional demand if it was done at a 7.5% discount to the market imo.
