The figures speed posted DO include dividend reinvestment as they are the same as trustnets which clearly state includes dividend reinvestment.

In my opinion its fairly obvious they are chasing dividends at the expense of capital.Or to put it another way you are indirectly paying for your dividend from capital.

" you would expect HFEL to underperform a bit though "
A share price that has dropped from £3 odd to £2.20 you shouldn't need to expect anything, it's already done it !

It's not dividends reinvested total return.

I would expect HFEL to underperform a bit though. If it is enhancing income with dividend scalping, excessive trading will lead to higher expenses than others. It would probably add 1% per year to costs, or something like that.

Do you Investor types genuinely belive Asian companies are going to maintain their dividend over the next 12- 18 months ???

Surely share price total return includes dividends distributed (hence 'total return'). If you were to exclude dividends, the share price return would be even worse.

If it has a policy of paying out the biggest dividend, why would would you expect it not to underperform on capital, and why would you throw out the managers for carrying out their stated aim?

HFEL is by far the worst performing of all its peers in its AIC sector (Asia Pacific Equity Income).

Share price total return: 1yr -13%, 5yr -11%, 10yr +33%

Shouldn't the board be thinking about a change of investment manager?

I see the Chinese are ramping up their activity in the Chinese straight.
I wonder if that's because slow Joe has given long range missiles to Ukraine ?
Listening to the Left Wing extremists on the BBC and CNBC there is no need for these missiles because the Lefties are already victorius?
The Russian army is decimated and their country in ruins .
The Leftie lives in a Wonky not for real World.
Will China take Taiwan imminently, due to slow Joe's attempts to take the attention off the Lefties staggering debt and sinking economy ?

I sold a month or so ago.The net dividend of the shares it owns is less than the dividend payed they make up the difference in other way's including selling options which is all well and good provided it does not affect capital value but in their case it looks to me like it does. They have fallen a hell of a lot though so could get a decent bounce or even a change of trend but still looks weak to me.

Just come across this again after selling a few years ago due to dire performance which has continued but the dividend is enticing. Can anyone give any insights into performance or is it just for dividends? Is the dividend safe?

A little bit of advice:

You don't need to come across as so desperate, mate. Dial it back a bit, no need to post several times daily, especially on a weekend. Enjoy the spare time. Let people decide for themselves.
