Encouraging news out today: S. Korean semis stats for November; over 40% y.o.y hike in production and 80% leap in shipments.
Follows previous news of revival in the sector out of Korea/Taiwan for October.
Semiconductors feed into all manner of things.
Not just retail goods; also plant, infrastructure, transport and more.

How broad a surge in related growth is underway globally and in FE/Asia-Pacific in particular?
Maybe well beyond 'Tech.'; e.g. suggests other [esp.industrial] sectors like autos are growing well. BDY seems to be overtaking TESLA as biggest seller into Chinese market, which suggests this may be so.
Won't be long before the general picture gets filled out.

Depends which report you look at but they almost all show that women are better investors than men. Beating them by 0.4% to 1.4% pa.

"' the only people that catch the bottom and the top are the liars'. I must be as honest as the day is long (though I did buy into PHNX at 470 last Monday"

The "bottom" was around 440p a month or so ago.

I'm far from what you would describe as "Woke" however I will say this:

I often read journalists and analysts quote research demonstrating women tend to be more successful investors than men, often cited due to them tinkering less.

Also there has been a change of managers and the new managers are as yet unproven as lead managers. Let's at least give them a chance before writing them off before they've proven themselves. Stop all this misogynistic nonsense and just wait and see how they perform. Judge on performance and merit, not gender.

And will bring zero benefit .
Except perhaps if they are fit ?.. benefits to Lucky male directors they have pleasured along their career journey

adejuk,
As as been pointed out, if they had been a couple of guys I would have written "jobs for the boys", so no need to get uptight about it!

1784 last time I checked girls were people. Would you be so upset if he had written jobs for the boys in relation to a couple of men joining the board?

CYN used distributable reserves to pay dividends throughout the covid period. The chart shows it didn't do them any harm;

Sounds like "jobs for the Girls" to me. Would be surprised if they bring anything new to the party.

2sporrans.

Good points.

Will be impressive if they pull it off.

Returning to capital growth and growing a dividend which is currently being supported from reserves at the same time is quite a tall order.

"Through this transition period, we will use our distributable reserves to supplement your Company's dividend."

Propping up the divi with the reserves, isn't desirable imho; certainly it can only be a short term measure, over a year tops.
Can the transition be achieved within this timeframe?

What's new to engender a transformation?

"The Board has full confidence in Sat's ability to manage the portfolio going forward, and he has been part of a long-standing succession plan having been
co-manager since 2019."

Can't say Sat's contribution over the past 4 years imbues me with such confidence.

Could it be that Susie and Carole will emerge to the fore, during the "transition"?
Whilst not fund managers, as such, they may be key in determining overall strategy change and potentially interviewing a replacement for Sat.

"Susie Rippingall and Carole Ferguson will join as members of the Board with effect from 1 December 2023.
Both are outstanding investment professionals with strong backgrounds in areas that will enhance your Board's future decision-making while giving us a better overall balance."

New blood at least.
While there is life, there is hope.

Early signs of stronger growth returning?

China's industrial production advanced by 6.6% year-on-year in November 2023, following a 4.6% gain in the previous month and beating market forecasts of 5.6%. It was the fastest pace of growth in industrial production since February 2022, mainly boosted by faster rises in mining (3.9% vs 2.9% in October), manufacturing (6.7% vs 5.1%), and utilities (9.9% vs 1.5%). For the first eleven months of 2023, industrial output grew by 4.3% from the same period in 2022. source: National Bureau of Statistics of China

Well I'm out
But my call was for 1.10/1.30 in relatively quick order .
It's like somebody said , if it holds the £2 ?
Chinese banking system and Chinese Property, I'm not going to gamble any further but it is far more likely to go down than up .

Didn't realise Charlie Munger had died, he came out with some great quotes on the market, RIP.

That quote, or something like it is often attributed to Charlie Munger who died recently. Here are some of his aphorisms. hxxps://tradingqna.com/t/charlie-mungers-100-quotes/139556
