The Arabs will improve it am sure
Scandalous that this was leaked yesterday all those late trades of yesterday and today should be investigated and people prosecuted

I believe Mr H and Mr L own over 50% of the company so zero chance anything in that vague area gets done surely.

Equally given the funds will have got their investment committees to approve a 985p offer, I think it'll be hard for them to get those same committees to approve a price at the sort of level needed purely from an emotional perspective i.e. the feeling of being 'had'.

I'd be amazed if this goes anywhere

See RNS!

CVC approached with an offer of 985p in late April

Need to increase that substantially

Repeat of yesterday, slow start & then sudden spike. Short closing or M&A?. M&A only acquiror Charles Schwab with firepower, scrip offer. My guess short closing made a real hash of closing positions. Holders can enjoy watching from the sidelines. I was hoping £10 by year end, but looks conservative now.

Great late move again, the spike started at 3:45 today!

We've now taken out the July 2023 high at 944p, so next target is the Feb 2023 high of 1,024p.

Who was rumoured as the acquiror?

M&A vague speculation cited along with a no comment from HL.

There were 3 consecutive peaks over 18-24 months which lined up nicely and a continuation of that trend was broken around 890p

It's a big move in the final 2 hours of trading, which suggests to me that shorters are starting to panic. Do the hedge funds have secret meetings amongst themselves to decide what the next best strategy might be? Or are there some buy note/s about to be put out by some silly brokers (always late to the party).

We still haven't attained the the highs of the 940s yet, last seen briefly in Feb '23. If that's surpassed in the next few days they'll be more desperate covering by hedge funds.

Myself & a few others have posted being short HL is dangerous a) free float not great because of founders & LT not sellers, have to buy 1 months turnover at 5% short b) rising markets help HL anyway already up I guess 8% AUA since 31/3. c) generally undervalued anyway compared to peers. Anyway if they want to continue to line my pockets I am not going to complain. I think they got careless as stock was down so long. The theoretical loss is infinite as price can keep rising forever. Whereas going long stock can only fall to zero, so loss contained.

Lomax - shorters DON’t Hold 5%, they need to buy 5% to balance their books.

Wow, wtf happened here... nearly sold out when instead the spike?Takeover rumours??

Wonder if there's any takeover speculation in the market?

Notice the spike stopped just above the July 2023 high of 944p, so that could be a resistance for now - unless today's close is above that level.

Well the shorters hold 5%+, 23.7m+ shares so the party hasn't even remotely started.

Agree @bend1pa - additionally when it left the FTSE 100 there wasn't a huge additional fall (the fall had already happened!) so it seems to make little difference in the grand scheme.

Being back in the FTSE 100 is overrated. Many FTSE 250 stocks easily outperform their FTSE 100 peers. So I'd prefer for HL to remain in the FTSE 250 as long as possible.
